He did run an impressive campaign , have to give him that. But he's too far left on too many issues that centrist / independent voters just wont support.

They need to run a moderate in the mold of Slick Willy Clinton , not a far left candidate that the center will ignore.

Beto as the nominee , unless he dramatically shifts on policy is highly likely another 4 years of Dipsh!t Orange.

Because ran against a candidate everyone dislikes …. The center doesn't like him and neither do the Republicans , they hold their nose and vote for him.

Even a remotely likable Republican candidate wins by double digits. Cruz is abhorred.

This is the worst and most dangerous type of mentality. Gross.

O'Rourke had over 4,000,000 votes. This needs to be updated if the dude is trying to make a point.

That makes sense, and is the accepted narrative, but I don't think it's necessarily true. These issues:
    -Abortion
    -Gun control
    -Gay rights
    -Obamacare / Public Option / Medicare-for-all
-Raising taxes on the wealthy and/or eliminating loopholes and recent breaks

All poll well over 50% nationwide, some over 60. Bernie showed us that you can win independents with what was once considered a way-too-left agenda. The nationwide support for these issues is real. Support for federal gun checks have polled in the 70s-80s for a long time.

I'm not saying it's a home run, because a national nominee has to take a hit with the 'socialist' slur, but Bernie has cracked the door on that, and the American people are tired of the red scare narrative when it's clear to everybody that Reaganomics is a failure.

Beto's unifying Obama-esque narrative is extremely appealing to the left and the middle. He ran with a liberal platform and came within a few points of defeating a very unlikable Cruz, in Texas. A liberal candidate can do the same against trump in 2019 and win the presidency.

That being said, the democrats are likely in for some very ugly infighting over this issue in the next 2 years.

National polls on this don't really matter in an electoral college system.

I don't believe a far left candidate will beat Trump either.

Yes, I'm gonna go out and vote for Beto who I strongly dislike or some independent getting 0.8% of the vote.

This wasn't a toss up in my book.

I do think Beto isn't ready for presidential run in 2020.

Hmm... it was that thinking that elected two candidates (three, if you add Melendez) into office. And elected a number of know racists. Heck, even a dead man. Sure, you kept the seat red. But at some point it might be better to think like an American and not just as a republican.

And, btw, while most think I am extreme left wing Democrat, about a third of the people I voted for were republicans, including George P. Bush. Because I look more at the candidate and whether they are the best person for the job.

Beto is not running in 2020 I can guarantee that. Vice President.... maybe, but not top of the ticket. I don’t think he seemed to have the interest, and his appeal was rooted in Texas culture, and his authentic embrace of that other side of Texas that the nation hardly ever sees.

How that translates to Ohio, North Carolina, and Iowa I’m not entirely sure. He was authentically a Texas Liberal here which worked. I don’t know any candidate that runs in Iowa as an authentic liberal honestly. He does make some sense running with Biden late in the game though. Pull in some enthusiasm in a state like Texas of course and maybe win back Michigan/Wisconsin. Let Biden do his thing in the rust belt.

My favorite candidates are John Hickenlooper and Amy Klobucher. Both successful and qualified, both moderates, both middle America. Unfortunately neither really have a chance because that isn't what America wants.

LOL.. what republicans and trump supporters hone in on. Beto has been going by his nickname since he was a young child. And cruz's name is rafael, not ted.

But yea... just imagine a republican using a nickname on a campaign poster...

Yeah you're gonna ignore it. Got it.

You have to be pretty partisan to ignore a clear attempt at PR like that.
