5 year extension - Sr. Vice Pres. of Basketball Operations. Looks like they wanted to lock him down for a while. Kudos to Keith - he has worked his way into the job!
I think he always had the title of Vice president of basketball operations in addition to his title as trainer. I also remember reading that he was one of the more influential and more popular trainers due to this. Then again I have no idea what a Vice president of basketball operations does.
He's always been VP of Ops. He basically does a lot of organizational and "housekeeping" work. Helps with travel arrangements and all that good stuff. Also helps in evaluating players and their "healthiness", how their body type translates on the court, if there is room to grow physically, etc.
He is both. He will continue working as trainer, but VP as well. Jones has REALLY good relationships with players around the league. He is very well respected.
Does he have say so in player personnel decisions like trades, drafts, free agent signings? Cause I thought that's what Basketball Operations does.
Great news for both Keith Jones and the Rockets organization. Keith is highly respected in the sports world. It's great that we have him on our side. Keith was also the trainer for the United States team that competed at the FIBA Tournament.
Jones' job is more about player relations. Like I said, he is extremely well respected around the league and has personal relationships with a LOT of the players. What he does is more like recruiting than discussing trades, etc. Because he knows so many players, agents, etc, no doubt his knowledge is invaluable to the Rockets and a good reason for them to lock him up. He's not going to be a GM.
I didn't want to start a new thread in the nba discussion thread, but can someone post an NBA Franchise Structure from top to bottom. Starting at Owner, and on down.
