You believe moving guys around will solve problems, right? But you don't believe moving guys around will *cause* problems? See the issue?.... it's mighty convenient. In terms of sacred cows, yeah - batting lead-off absolutely carries more weight to it; it changes the dynamic significantly and you don't start playing games in the World Series. I mean, would you ask.... Will Harris to suddenly start closing games in the World Series? George Springer is not a bad baseball player; he's a big reason why this team is in the World Series. Unfortunately, this particular slump is ill-timed. If the goal is to bust the slump, messing with his confidence probably isn't the best path.
Just seems inconsistent of you to assert that changing springers batting position can fix his issues while denying that changing bregman/altuve/correa/gurriel could cause issues for them. I get your mindset if you truly believe it is worth the risk but you have to acknowledge hey nows point that it does present a risk to the hitters that are performing well in their current spots at the moment.
You misunderstand. Moving Springer isn't mean to fix him. Its merely to put someone thats hitting better into the lead-off role. Sure, any risk has the potential to backfire. Thought that was obvious.
I get his hitting is awful and I would lower him in the lineup. That being said, there is no way in hell you bench him. He’s our best defensive CF and you just have to hope his bat wakes up.
I honestly don’t know what the answer is. Benching your best OF is knee jerk. Moving him down in the lineup seems fairly appropriate though and as far as addressing confidence...sending him up there first when he is -so- lost doesn’t seem like a boost either.
Shut up lol These type of threads are so lame when OP cops out from their previous statements to say it was a jinx thread.
ESPN just showed the clip again on Springer's story growing up and dealing with his speech impediment. His work with the National Stuttering Association (and the countless lives he's helped....especially young kids) is flat out INCREDIBLE!!!' Springer is an inspiration to SO many!!
I'm not picking on you, @jim1961 - but this is why soooooooooooo many of us preach patience. This is a GREAT Astros team. They're not perfect; they're not indestructible. They may still lose this series. But there is next-to-no reason to lose faith in them.
