You ride the guys that brought you here and try to win it all. If not, your best wasn't good enough and there is nothing wrong with that.
Springer is batting .224 since August. .200 in August, .250 in September, .412 against Boston, .115 against New York. In the first 4 months of the season he was batting .310.
Needs to revert back to pre-all-star game form. Looks like Springer of old swinging for the fences. Just make solid contact bruh!
Thing is, his defense is superb still. Its just his hitting is shook. Not sure what to do other than move him down the lineup. Damn
Springer has always been a streaky guy. Wouldn't mind him trying for a surprise bunt sometime though since he's stuggling.
I mentioned that to my family last night...was hoping they might try that, just to get him on...or attempt to. The way he was swinging there seemed to be no chance he was going to hit anything, much less the baseball.
Considering he was 0 for 4 in Game 1... the Game 2 homer really helped his confidence. His confidence determines his play more than his talent does...
I wonder what this does to his value? When is his contract up? "Disappears at the plate for long stretches" is not a good item to have on the resume.
He's an elite defender who is, on the whole, well above average offensively. He will be paid a mint*. * Almost certainly by some other team.
Springer has been leading off all season. He is a good hitter. You dont change that at this point. You dont over react. You trust your guys to win or lose with them
You dont change that if said player hasn't changed, but he has. If he was slumping, but looked good at the plate, that would be one thing. But this Chris Carter approach that he has adopted lately hurts him, hurts the team, and hurts our chances to win this series. Yea, he has lead off all season. But he hasn't been swinging like this all season. How is it a overreaction to move a guy down in the order that refuses to make an objective assessment of his own plate approach? And not do anything to fix it? No, we shouldn't bench him, but moving him down is called for.
How, exactly, does moving him down help him or the team? OK, he bats fewer times.... But are there really any players you want getting more ABs right now? You'd rather......... Reddick move back up there? (And, yeah - I know: Move Altuve! Move Gurriel! Here's the thing: you want to fix whatever's not working? Fine. But why are you so amped to fix what isn't broken? Are you sure a move for Altuve and/or Gurriel wouldn't impact them? You can't have it both ways: moves in the line-up affect players.) And where would you prefer he hit? 6th? 7th?....... Do you really want your coldest hitter, who (even when he's white-hot) still strikes out a lot, coming up in potentially high-leverage RISP situations? He's is, and always has been a streaky hitter. But, at his best, he's one of the most dangerous lead-off men in baseball. You don't sacrifice that advantage because of a handful of games. The Astros brought a pretty girl to the dance; they should dance with her.
Springer isnt broken right now? Really? Dont ask me for certainties. There aren't any. But I know the impact of how things are, and that is that nearly every time our best hitter comes to bat, their is at least one out already, and by the same player time and time again. What I want is for there not to be an auto-out right in front of our best hitters (Altuve/Correa). So yes, move him down to 7-8th. There is at most 6 games left in this season. This hope that at any time he is going to break out at any time is out of time. I agree he is dangerous when on, but he clearly is not. So I see him as a disadvantage as long as that remains the case. Except that she has poison ivy
