Just heard this guy for the first time last night, and man, he is old. He keeps talking about stuff from 20-30 years ago that goes over people's heads. Darryl Dawkins references for example. And then he blasted that guy from Tennessee for fumbling the football and said the Texans had print on their shorts that said "Protect The Football." So the other guy asked should Matt Schaub be removed if he fumbles? Then he said it's two different situations how can you compare them. Was a funny exchange.
I've been pleasantly surprised with him. Yes, he's old but he doesn't sound over the hill. ie. He knows what he's talking about. He does have strong opinions and I can see how some people can be annoyed by that but he seems ok to me.
He called Eric Winston an "overrated scrub" or something to that effect a couple of weeks ago. He lost all credibility with me there. Winston is no book-end, but compared to what we had before him he is solid.
A few weeks ago he said the Aggies would be a suprise team next year in the southwestern conference....
The few times I've heard him it always seemed like he was harshly criticizing other peoples opinions and then followed it up by passing off his own opinions as facts. I switch stations when he's on.
I heard him last week saying the thing he misses most about his childhood is the Christmas party at Fred and Wilma's.
The guy brings some history to the station. There's nothing wrong with that. Why do we have to agree with all the talk show hosts and why do they have to agree with us? That would get pretty boring.
Yeah, he comes off as a huge douche. The only reason I listen to him and Shaun Bijani is because 1560 plays Sporting News Radio at night. I'd rather listen to a local idiot talk about local teams than listen to a national broadcast that covers teams I really don't care about. I wish 1560 hadn't made this partnership with SNR, I miss Cougars Tonight and the Recap show.
I don't have to agree with them, but I'm not going to listen to arrogance, an annoying personality, or idiocy. Warner is more the former, Lopez the latter two. There's plenty that I don't agree with Matt and Adam on, but they don't force it down your throat and usually justify what they are talking about.
Its not that people disagree with him, he comes off as extremely arrogant, I haven't been bothered though. I do appreciate his knowledge, its one of the reasons of I listen to John Mclain and Ralph Cooper. However, those guys don't come off as know it alls, even when I don't agree with them.
He's terrible. And for all of the years he doesn't have a wealth of knowledge about current happenings in sports
thank you, the funny thing is they are king of local radio now. they have a weekend show and their programing goes to 11PM look I understand there are radio personalities that people don't like but I don't understand the loyalty to radio stations. who cares?
I heard him comment on Winston a couple weeks ago too. He said he doesn't consistently play at a high level. If he played a level he is cable of playing every single down, then he would be great. And he has he has the potential and ability to do so. But yeah, Warner is pretty arrogant. Seems to always think he is right and disagree with someone.
I surprisingly enjoy the show very much. When the Texans were 5-3 he said that we won't make the playoffs & this isn't a playoff calabor team. He got some heat for that but it came true. He's not a fan of the team so he doesn't sugar coat at all. He'll tell it like it is.
I used to listen to Barry Warner back in the 90's on KPRC, I think. He was an arrogant guy and his whole routine grated on your nerves. He could be a complete ass. I could never stand the guy. Here's an article about him I posted a while back in another thread. It's about 8 years old : http://www.fearfreeselling.com/sportscaster.htm
