They weren't having too hard of a time with the Texans offense yesterday... and normally Belichick detests wasting timeouts like that. But, it is an example of the risk of losing a timeout less-so than the reward of the refs finding something there. BOB was guaranteed to lose a timeout by forcing a challenge (unlike the normal scenario)... but I wasn't sure what he was saving his 3 timeouts for at that point, so he shouldn't have been as protective of them regardless.
"looks like"? Concussions aside, he's not good. They've had better corners from practice squads or 6th rounders put on Texans uniforms... and they don't have that long a history of having great cornerbacks. He was a first round pick who is only on the roster still because of where he was picked and how much they paid him... that, by definition, is a bust.
With a couple minutes to go you get the added benefit of not only getting the review, stopping the momentum, giving your defense a breather, you also get to stop the clock.
https://www.houstontexans.com/video/o-brien-recaps-sunday-s-loss-updates-injuries OBie thought it was a catch. His guy in the booth called downed and said it looked like a catch.
BOB isn’t a very bright man, certainly not intelligent enough to run a major college or NFL team in 2018. He has now lied multiple times about the same play and it isn’t anything new.
These are the things that pissed me off yesterday: Not calling time out to get the refs to look at the Gronk catch Punting on 4th down needing 2 scores with 4 mins to go (we lucked up and got the fumble somehow) Taking our sweet ass time huddling when we needed to score and get the ball back we could have called time out and saved time before 2 min warning which might have given us more than 50 seconds to go 99 yards or not. Its crazy we went from a coach that always took the blame even when it wasn't his fault to one that its never his fault when his dumb decisions cost us games.
His guys in the booth should be doing a better job looking at stuff like that. Otherwise, they are useless to Bill. If Bill had any doubt at all that it was a catch, he should have challenged the play, especially if it could be a game changing play. As Nimo said, even if the play stood, at least we would have stopped the clock, broken up their momentum, and given our defense a breather.
It's also situational. With 3 timeouts they weren't going to use, it was worth burning 1 even for a small chance of getting the call overturned.
I forgot about this one. If we had hurried, we could have scored with 3 minutes left on the clock instead of being indecisive. Getting the ball back with almost 2 minutes left and no TO is so much different than 50 seconds. It's these little things that BoB is an idiot about.
