If he really is the dumbest football coach then that would explain why he has always considered so many of our players "very smart", "very intelligent" or having such a "high IQ".
He knows all the football stuff and is knowledgeable during practice but when it comes to high pressurized situation his mind goes blank and it shows. It's like a kid who studies well and is knowledgeable about the topic, but when it comes test time he panics and flounders flunking his test.
He's good against weak teams, okay against mediocre, and horrid against good/elite teams, aka Texans will never get far with him at the helm.
I think it boils down to him trying to do TOO MUCH. Trying to be the HC and OC doesn't work for him. He needs to hire a world class OC that can get the most out of DW and our weapons. Then he can worry about taking TOs when he needs to.
I've been saying this for a couple seasons. He needs an offensive coordinator; one who can call plays and knows how to teach the offense.
He was hired because he was a brilliant offensive mind and a QB guru. If he is not that, then I don't really see the point of keeping him around.
Example: Kevin Johnson Bob seriously is a coordinator or qb coach. Some smaller gig role. U can’t be the boss on the sidelines. He doesn’t have it.
O’Brien definitely isn’t the greatest coach out there but people scapegoat the hell out of him around here while Watson can do no wrong. We lost the game yesterday because of the defense and Watson’s play more than anything O’Brien ever did. That’s the truth but people around this board don’t really want to hear the truth.
O'Brien didn’t fumble the ball on the first play of the game. He’s not the one who missed a wide open Ryan griffin for a td. That’s a 14 point difference. But people already made up their minds on obrien. He gets none of the credit if the Texans win and he gets all of the blame if they lose.
I can't say Watson played great, but look at his supporting cast. Worst OL in the league, unproven TEs, mediocre RBs, no WR2 with Fuller out. Then it looks like OBrien abandoned all that worked last year, going back to his boring spread offense. Watson had accuracy issues, that's what I'm most concerned about. A few times he had someone open and just didn't throw it accurately
Watson was flat out bad. Disturbingly bad. So was O’Brien! I think they both just had one of those days though. I don’t believe that either one of them is really as inept as they looked yesterday. What bothers me is how childish and defensive O’Brien came across in his post game interview. He repeatedly screws up when it comes to clock management. He doesn’t seem to ever learn, and he doesn’t seem to even realize that it’s a problem. That’s not good leadership. I’ve always had his back, but yesterday he was a bad coach.
I wasn't expecting Watson or the Texans in general to do well yesterday. They're playing the Patriots in Foxborough. I mean, if ever there were a built-in excuse for a team to lose, that's it. I can abide by Deshaun having an off game and the defense getting cooked, even embarrassed, at times. But what I can't abide by is BOB being a hindrance himself with his playcalling, time management, and decision making. Nobody is actively competing against the head coach to make him do dumb **** or look silly. He's doing that all on his own.
