Well I'm leaving Thailand today and heading down under. I'll be flying into Melbourne and then spending a month making my way up the east coast. Any suggestions, couches to sleep on, places to catch the rockets, temp jobs...
Check the Gold Coast out, If u can make it out to Cairns and got a lil bit of cash, go on one of those tours which take u out to the great barrier reef where u can go underwater diving and check out the great barrier reef (i saw nemo when i went!) (i did it a year or two ago for like $70 AU exchange rate sucks now for the aussie dollar so whats that? less than 50 american dollars?) uermm, i live in brisbane, but I live with my mum and our house is tiny and packed haha, so cant help u out much there... oh yeah theres that zoo that Steve Irwin used to run at Sunshine Coast, ehhhhhh, thats about all i know, If u ever get to Brisbane city and have more questions id be more than happy to see what i can do to help... As far as rockets games... no games are aired on australian free-tv but u can catch some games on cable-tv which of course im to afford, Sopcast works well tho
Melbourne will be buzzing this week because of the Melbourne Cup (horse race, it's a long weekend, and for some reason we've scored a public holiday on Tuesday!). HOWEVER...this means there will be a lot of tossers filling the bars/clubs everywhere. But some of the smaller clubs and bars will be tosser-free You just have be prepared to find them, try walking down Flinders Lane and some of the lanes off Chinatown (Little Bourke Street). As far as catching any Rockets games...if you find a place, tell me The only way to see them is via a web link from Clutchfans. Have a great time here, the weather will be fine (coming into Summer!), although there are thunderstorms forecast for Melbourne in the next couple of days. Where else are you going?
i agree with the previous poster...melbourne will be absolutely buzzing with melbourne cup excitement...we affectionately call this event "the race that stops the nation"...so don't be surprised if on the afternoon of the 4th...all the traffic and businesses stop and listen to the race...if i were you...i wouldn't be hesitant on placing a bet... rocket games are non existent...full stop and as for places to sleep and work...there are plenty of pubs and hotels that will takes temps for waiting on tables or serving behind the bar...if you're lucky...they'll give you a bed for the night... one last word of advice...the weather around christmas is a scotcher...melbourne might be a bit cooler but sydney it will be mid 30's (celsius) all through the summer with the occasional afternoon rainstorm...
