I've long held the option that time is the ultimate currency, and commuting from A to B is the ultimate time suck because you are beholden to the whim of others. The longer it takes you to get somewhere=the higher the time cost. The internet, online shopping, a la carte services and telecommuting have vastly reduced the actual need to be anywhere physically, hence virtually folding space to make A to B is as fast as your internet connection and ability to mentally process input. But there are simply some things you have to do in person. Since teleportation isn't reality at this point, private roads are not realistic and jetpacks aren't at a production point yet, the best option to cut local travel time is a helicopter (I also realize that taking a helicopter would mean employing staff to coordinate landings, so that's an added cost). I know that Tilman Fertitta employs a helicopter and I would like to emulate that at some point, but I'm trying to figure out the point where it's feasible from a time/cost standpoint. I realize that this is a basketball forum, however, it has the most diverse socioeconomic collective I've seen in an online community, and that includes Reddit. Ideas? Thoughts? Anyone else considered this?
I can tell you that both planes and helicopters fall into the same bucket: money pits. My wife's employer owns a jet and his partner owns jets and a helicopter. They have a love/hate relationship with those machines. The upfront costs look like it won't be too terrible, but they constantly require expensive maintenance that is mandated. They both have a couple billion floating around, and they still hate the cost out the door each month. Any cost estimates you have for run and maintain: triple what you THINK they are.
It becomes feasible the moment that the travel time that you save can or does equate to a value worth more than the helicopter's total cost.
Yeah, parking is legit. Take it to chipotle and park on top of the restaurant. Ill bet that you can't afford a helicopter within reason. Itd probably be a dumb investment unless you are filthy rich. is that the wrong response and are you gonna do me like @DieHard Rocket ?
My dads client has a private jet and had to put a pilot on his payroll lol. He also needed to fix it at least a couple times a year. He has already spent more in fixing it + paying for the pilot then he did for the jet. This dude is filthy rich and still ended up regretting it and selling it after he wasted tons of time abd money on it
Haha, yeah, unlike cars I sometimes work on (and I can do everything but bodywork, well probably bodywork too but not interested in learning/time)... Anyway even w/ my mechanical skills I wouldn't risk skimping on the maintenance, definitely don't want to be liable unless I became a pro so I can only imagine with all the regulations/maintenance it costing a lot.
Well, Im about to be filthy rich in the very near future. Helos for everybody! http://fanfest.com/2017/05/08/ducktales-fans-can-dive-into-scrooge-mcducks-money-bin/
