First, this is under the assumption that after Game 3, the Philles had the advantage Astros lost home field in Game 1 and there was no guarantee the series would even return to MMP. Plus, the Phillies were undefeated at home in the playoffs (including one W against Houston, in blowout fashion) Phillies had a lead in Game 6, and were in position to extend the series to a Game 7. Anything can happen in a Game 7 So in your opinion, when did the series turn?
When Cristian Javier toe'd the rubber in Game 4. Bregman's 2-run double in Game 4 off of Alvarado. Pressly's 8th inning escape act in Game 5 (man on 3rd with 1 out and they don't score)
Astros would have prob been favored to lose game 7 especially considering bregman and Yuli would have prob been out. Mcculers got hit hard (obviously he would not have the same tell but would that play with his head )
Once they F’d with Mack… it was a wrap after that. On the diamond though, Bregman’s 2 run double off Alvarado felt like a huge turning point in the series
Last 3 innings of game three. Urquidy handling their lineup without using our bullpen was big, but Philly started getting a little too cocky/comfortable, like they had already won the series. Next night, we’re up 5, throwing a no hitter, our players looked confident but they were locked in.
Think the no hitter put them away mentally. They were never the same. That took the magic they had and rubbed it out. And on the flip side we felt like a team of destiny at that point. The nail in the coffin would have been when Pressly got out of the jam in the 8th. They were buried right there at home.
It was still anyone's series after game 4 with it being tied but the Astros don't win game 4 I don't think they come back if they go down 3-1. Winning game 4 was the most important game to keep the Astros in the series. They don't win that then this series is still going 7. Anything can happen in a game 7. Game 5 put momentum back in the Astros corner and gave them the advantage going into game 6.
The Astros were the better team. That was acknowledged by all before the series even started. What Philly had was this confidence that came from " home field invincibility" and ability to come from behind to win. It was Mike Tyson who said, "Everyone has a plan 'til they are punched in the mouth." They punched the Astros in the mouth in game #3 but were answered. The Astros punched them in the mouth in game #4 and they had no answer. Any confidence they had was shattered the series was done.
i stopped worrying about the stros losing the series after game 4 and the phillies got shut out in a no hitter at home. They were done after that
Dodgers are so overrated the only time they won a championship in the last 20 years was in the Covid year in a shortened season. The rest of the years they have had one the highest payrolls in the league, the best regular season records, and one of the most talented and deep teams around and still choke year after year to teams they are heavy favorites against.
