This "logjam" you speak is about to go away. Gattis and marwin are FAs coming up at major league level and I imagine aj Reed, Tyler white, and other such AAAA options are playing out their last season in our organization. Alvarez is our future at 1B and DH.
Great. He’s hit 12 homeruns, people are acting like this is Mike Trout we can acquire. Also Stassi is rated as Fangraphs best pitch framer in baseball and has 7 homeruns as well in considerably less AB’s. Barely even an upgrade and a trade just to make a trade
So, where does Alvarez project at? I'm hearing that given his large size, and that he is young enough to possibly grow even more, he may end up being DH only? Some say he may end up being a liability on the field at the MLB level, and that he'll be just DH. That's what I'm starting to think, the guy is really really big. Also, if we're trying to make a trade with the Marlins for Realmuto, I'm a big fan of pairing him with Conley. Great lefty reliever, 3.4 years of control, great stuff.
Astros aren't giving up Tucker in any deal for Realputo Give up the pipe dream, not happening. Luhnow isn' t this stupid. Ramos for cheap is the likely direction.
Why is that stupid? Realmuto is the better player, at a tougher position, and under control for several more years.
Luhnow won't abandon Tucker for a guy with control for a few years... he has Stassi, McCann for cheap next year, Fed. etc. You're over pricing him.
It’s stupid in the sense that Luhnow isn’t doing it. He isn’t giving up 7 years of Tucker for 2+ years of Realmuto. If you want to argue that Realmuto is Johnny Bench and Tucker is Jake Marisnick without the defense, fire away...but to think it’s realistic that we actually do that deal, is the stupid part It looks like there will be a few veteran catchers available over the next few weeks, if we do plan to get one the sooner the better, get em working with our staff soon as possible
Our front office is much smarter than that, the "Realmuto is the better player" is simpleton thinking, this team is better than that. Sure we could trade for JT, but it won't be because "he is the better player"...
Fwiw, Fangraphs trade value rankings, which are coming out this week and are based on their discussions with team personnel, have Realmuto as more valuable than Tucker.
Either way relief pitching and J.T.Realmuto is the current way to go. If they dont want to move Tucker. Then Alveraz has to be involved along with some other top guys but not all.
Seriously? He’s 16th in fWAR among position players in the middle of his prime on a cheap contract with 2 more years of control remaining. I feel pretty confident he’s in the top 40.
Are you 8 years old? Realputo? Seriously? I sincerely doubt Tucker is part of any talks right now. I'd bet that Luhnow can construct a package that doesn't include our top 3 prospects to get one of the best catchers in the game. If not, so be it. Stassi had done and admirable job and McCann will hopefully be back. One of them is going to have to take the reigns though, come playoff time. Ramos is hurt and about to go on the DL.
