HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Journeyman catcher Jeff Reed agreed to a minor league contract with the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Financial terms of the deal, which include an invitation to spring training, were not disclosed. If the 38-year-old Reed makes the team, he likely would be used as a backup behind Brad Ausmus and Tony Eusebio. Reed batted .214 with four homers and 25 RBI in 90 games for the Chicago Cubs last season. He also has played for Minnesota, Montreal, Cincinnati, San Francisco and Colorado and is a career .250 hitter with 61 homers and 323 RBI in 1,234 games. ------------------ RKMAN Proud believer of the 2001 World Champion Houston Astros.
