Pitching Matchups: 7-30 -- Pete Munro (2-2, 3.74) vs. Aaron Harang (6-4, 4.62) 6:10 on KNWS 7-31 -- Andy Pettitte (6-4, 4.11) vs. Brandon Clausen (1-0, 5.23) 12:15 on Fox 8-1 -- Roy Oswalt (10-8, 3.74) vs. Paul Wilson (9-2, 3.84) 12:15 on FSSW
Day 3 matchup could change though. There's serious talk about Wilson being moved to whoever misses out on Kris Benson. Should be a good matchup, pitchingwise. Harang's been great since coming off the DL, Claussen's ERA should be at least a run lower, and Wilson, if he stays around, has been very efficient with his pitches all year.
Not to mention the very real possibility that Darren Oliver starts on Sat for Pettitte. LLW...just don't have a good feeling about this series.
Bad feeling about the series. I think the Reds will have their way the first two games and Oswalt dominates in game 3. Watch out for Willy Mo Pena.
You'll know after game 1 if Pena will have a good series or not. lately he's been "stepping into a bucket" when he swings. As a Reds fan, I hope he gets it corrected, but if he doesn't, he's an automatic out.
Why don't you send him to Houston because we would love to have him If the Reds were smart they would hold on to this guy because they made a dumb move last season and let Jose Guillen get away. A lineup with Dunn,Pena, Guillen, and Casey would have been really nice. Griffey showed that he can't hit much for an average but he can still hit for power so it shouldn't be hard to unload him in the offseason.
Trading Guillen was a smart move. He wouldn't have resigned with Cincinnati, and we got Harang, who figures to be our 3rd or 4th starter for the forseeable future, trading Griffey is not an option at this point. One of the more popular ideas is to move Kearns to 3B, as he played there in HS and College, play Dunn at left,Pena at Center, and Griffey at right (less wear and tear on his legs). Which would allow for a 3-7 of Casey,Griffey,Pena,Kearns,Dunn(though not in that order, probably)
Did the Reds make Guillen an offer or was his price too high for their market? The guy was hitting the cover off the ball his time there.
It was a combination of things, Guillen raised his price tag considerably, playing time was an issue,Dunn/Kearns/Griffey weren't happy, but they kept in it the clubhouse, Guillen was a cancer, he still is in Anaheim, though not as much, as he gets full time PT. And the new regime wanted to rebuild the farm system on good pitching, Guillen brought that to the Reds from Oakland.
Astros tie it up just in the "nick" of time... (take that, "DO WHAT") Actually, if they hadn't scored, it looks like this game might have been called... the field is in terrible shape right now, and only getting worse... and rain is forecast for the rest of the night. As it is, it looks like it will be suspended at this point... the Astros come back to play Cincy next month... and they'd pick it up then as part of a double-header or something.
Yeah I figured he must have been a hothead because the Pirates did the same thing to him. Any talk in Cincy about trading Kearns?? He had a lot of hype at first but the injury bug caught up with him.
Great... they just suspended the game, to be resumed TOMMOROW MORNING?!?!?!? Nobody in Houston will get to see "breakfast at Cincinnati" because they're going to play leading up to the Fox game in the AFTERNOON. Why don't they just play after the game at noon? I can't imagine that the players (or the fans) will be psyched about playing a game at 9am... (I'm guessing 9am, because the Fox game is scheduled for noon).
the afternoon game should be a great one, probably mostly backups will play, the bullpens will be spent, as they'll both have already pitched 4 innings that day. Both teams will be walking corpses by Sunday.
