There was a rumor (that I heard on PTI today) that Mark Cuban is interested in buying them. I'm pretty sure he'd up the payroll, if that was the case.

You cannot even begin to imagine how tortorous it is being a Pirates fan. McClatchey has to be one of the worst owners in sports and despite my disdain for Cuban, I would welcome & embrace his ownership.

I know the Pirates are playing like they don't belong in the bigs right now, but I still don't know what's more shocking:

Both rookie pitchers, who have struggled immensely this year, pitch back-to-back quality starts OR our big hit comes from a reserve utility player who collects more RBIs in one swing than he had all of the rest of the season.

With AP pitching the final game in the Bucs series tomorrow and with Roy and Roger pitching the first two against a struggling Washington team, there's no reason why we can't win at least 3 of the next 5 which would give us a 6-5 road trip. Considering the Cards & Nats phenomenal home records and how the Bucs destroyed us at PNC earlier this year, I'd say we'd take that.

Awesome!! Way to get back to above .500 as quick as possible and not sulking after the STL losses. Lets sweep this one tomorrow and swat the Nats!

Great double header sweep. This team still needs some tweaking but it's nice to gets some wins after the Cards trounced us.

I think Astacio just helped our cause in trades with his quality start.

Pretty much just a rumour. Apparently somone in Chicago asked Cuban if he would ever be interested in buying the Cubs and he said of course he would, with the value of their name and all. Then some Chicago writers blew it up into a huge story saying that Cuban was looking to buy the Cubs...which is totally untrue.

A couple of days later a writer in the Pittsburgh paper wrote a column asking Cuban to buy the Pirates instead of the Cubs (Cuban is from Pittsburgh originally, apparently) and Cuban responded by saying that really the only way he would get involved with the Pirates is if it looked like the were going to be forced to leave town...

They were discussing this on Dallas radio yesterday.

The pirates are so boring, I think they need an infusion of energy. Cuban would help. they have a nice traditional team, good name, and I think that kids would them if they started winning.

Exactly! We could honestly be within a couple games of the wild card with an awesome series in Washington. They are struggling as of late too!

I was wondering the same ... both Taveras and Garner. There were 2 outs and no one on, then suddenly we scored 4 runs. Thanks for lighting the fire first base umpire.

More runs in the 7th! RBI Pettitte!
