This would be a desperate move by Orlando and is an indictment of how pathetic VC is. The guy is soft as a wet sponge and is a failure as a closer in the playoffs.

If Orlando can dump Rashard Lewis back on the Wizards, I can see how a deal for Gilbert might happen. But his health looms very large.

If Arenas can stay healthy and keep his head on stright this could be a good trade for the Magic but thats a big if.

What legit contention hopes? The Magic right now are just depending on DH to progress so much he can beat the other teams almost singlehandedly. That's way too big a burden for just 1 guy, not every player can "Hakeem" it nowadays esp. since other teams have 3, 4 or even 5 allstar players on the roster.

Otis Smith smashed Orlando's contention hopes when he signed Rashard Lewis to that albatross contract. Sure it opened up things in the middle for DH but in the playoffs DH always has to go two-on-one in the paint. A blatche-Arenas+filler for Lewis-Carter+filler swap would do wonders for the Magic.

Arenas is one of the league's best closers and clutch players before all the issues happened. A healthy Arenas and Howard combo backed by a nice suppoerting cast would be a good matchup against the Lakers.

I know the guy is a bit of a loose cannon but he would be the ideal complement to Howard and just look at his stats before he went idiot last year along with his most recent games this season.

Orlando and Washington are engaged in serious discussions for a trade that would send Gilbert Arenas to the Magic, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Arenas has privately told people for days that he believes a deal will soon send him to Orlando, where he’ll be reunited with Magic general manager Otis Smith, a friend and mentor from Arenas’ days with the Golden State Warriors. Sources said Orlando has escalated its pursuit of a deal in recent days. After losing five of their past six games, the Magic have shown more urgency to find a perimeter scorer who can help them stay a viable contender in the Eastern Conference.

Still unclear was whether Orlando would send the expiring contract of Vince Carter as part of the package or build a trade around longer-term contracts, including that of backup center Marcin Gortat, sources said. The Wizards also have been angling to get a first-round pick in return, sources said.

Arenas has four years and $60 million left on his Wizards deal. Following his 50-game suspension for bringing guns into the Wizards locker room last season, Arenas became further expendable after Washington drafted No. 1 overall pick John Wall.

The Magic have discussed Gortat with other teams, sources said. Several teams, including Houston and Portland, have inquired about the 7-footer’s availability. If the Magic are going to take on the remainder of Arenas’ contract, it could be important for them to trim some other deals to spare their luxury-tax hit with what’s already a league-high $94.7 million payroll.

Orlando has had discussions on several fronts, sources said. Phoenix has been making calls on forward Hedo Turkoglu and had a conversation with Orlando about the former Magic forward. Turkoglu is in the second season of a five-year, $53 million contract. The Toronto Raptors traded him to the Suns over the summer, but Phoenix is already looking for ways to get off the remaining four years, and $44 million on his deal, sources said.
