Happy with the trade still, but regardless, Jalen was getting moved at some point. He said out his own mouth they'd been trying to trade him for the past couple years. KD or no KD, jalen wasnt a part of this team's future.
Miss the luxury of having Dillon + Jabari and then Terror Twins off the bench. Im sure that order would be different today, but expect same impact. Stone thought he was being smart by adding DFS, but DB is having a career season. Still like the trade to get out of the Jalen contract and adding KD, but DB is missed. The other more surprising part is how good the Suns record is and the devaluing of the remaining picks. Giving back the BKN picks and Swapping for PHX is not looking good. Helping the Suns reset is the worst part of the trade.
I think when Jalen starts playing the PHX picks will go up in value. We dont need to worry about that. We think we’ve got problems with balance in the line up. Wait till Jalen starts his streaky play. Dillon will try to overcompensate for Jalen’s inconsistency because they’re names are linked through the trade. Then the wheels will begin to fall off the bus in PHX due to imbalance. At least that’s my armchair sports psychologist take. I like Jalen but we know who he is. If PHX can make it work then they deserve all the good that’s going to come their way. I just don’t see it happening.
We have 2.5 years with KD, if they dont win, then I think Sengun is moved for multiple picks and we hope to get lucky in a draft kind of a mini reset like after Harden, but I don't think we tank for our own picks again. That will be 7+ years w Sengun so we will know if hes truly untouchable by then.
They have seen how good they are without him though, we didnt really get that chance the kid was good with attendance for us. They would shut him down and trade him if he started being an issue. Isbhia is on edge and under pressure from his minority investors he would pivot quickly.
you might be right. For our sake I hope you aren’t. Whenever I pay for an expensive meal I eat it. Even if I don’t like it I’ll eat it. If the surf in my surf and turf has a less than fresh smell I’ll still eat it. Because I’m paying a lot and my ego won’t let me leave it on the plate. and then I get food poisoning and I swear I will never make the same mistake again. Until I do. Jalen is a very expensive dish to just send out. They spent a fair amount of money and energy justifying it to their fan base I bet. They will probably let him play and he will have a week or two of 30+ pt games and they will start to think they’ve really got something. Then the trade deadline will come and go and they will go on a 10 game losing streak. We’ve seen it ourselves. Jalen fever. Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm….and God shuffled his feet….Mmmm Mmmm
The KD trade has been successful beyond my wildest dreams. Even if we dont win a ring, it is still a major success as we managed to "optimize" the salary of Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks into one guy that is better than both of them combined. Yes KD is old at 37, however his salary next year goes DOWN to 45M in an era where the max goes anywhere from 55M-70M. You take that all day every day. Apart from FVV's missing 25M salary the Rox dont have any overpaid contracts, and their two best players are playing at below market rates for the next 3 yrs. If only Presti didnt make the god rebuild of the century I would say Rox on track for a dynasty. As it is I think Rox still have a good shot considering their front court is a big scrub Hartenstein and stick thin Chet Holmgren.
Lets just bump this... i see a lot of people complaining that were part of that 86% approval rate....
Jalen and Dillon haven't been positives for PS. DB is high volume really low efficiency, even lower than with us. JG has barely played. Khaman looks like a total bust for pick #10. So we got almost the highest efficiency 25+ppg scorer in exchange for not a lot... yet. Of course over time things can still be different.
Why wouldn't we be happy with the trade? We still got rid of Jalen. Now we just need to see if Alpi and Bari are b**** ass hoes now, what with the consensus being KD did it.
yeah, I'm not sure we needed to mess with what we had last year. It was a lot more fun watching that team make progress than it is watching this squad tread water
I do actually agree, though I think we miss Dillon more than Jalen in all honesty. Looks like he had more to do with the culture setting than I gave him credit for at the time thinking it was predominately Ime, who I think has been a little exposed.
I was never really a Jalen hater, when he was on, he was really fun to watch. And when he was off/inconsistent/ineffective, I chalked it up to him still being young. I will say my impression of him is that he likes the status and fanfare of being an "NBA player." I think the Durant trade may be the best thing that ever happened to him. I suspect when he starts playing again for real he might buckle down and really try harder to improve, if he's got any kind of pride at all. I think he was complacent here . . . I hope that's changed, and I really hope he emerges as a great player either in Phoenix or wherever he ends up.
I was one of Jalen's biggest fans actually, I just don't think he has the composure to leverage his ridiculous natural advantage tbh. I wish him the best, as long as he never wins it all outside of Houston. I still he actually flashed the highest potential of anyone we've drafted so far, his peaks still cap the rest of them for the most part, but his troughs were also just not feasible. Reed looks potentially an even more extreme but similar kind of prospect with boom/bust tbh. It's also why I can't put too much stock in Amen until he actually shows some superstar offensive flashes - we've seen way more from a different guy who still didn't work out.
even if he has the capacity to make it work, it wouldn’t happen here under our coaching staff. That’s why the trade looked good but now amen and Sengun are in the same spot at a later stage of the development.
