Any 85% + FT shooter you'd also consider an elite level defender?

Joe Dumar have a 84.3% career free throw percentage. Do you consider Klay a elite defender?

Chris Paul. Larry Bird (when he could move around). Paul George. Jack Sikma.

Sikma would be such an awesome player in this era. The original stretch 5. Dude shot 92% from FT once. He would have developed into a 40% 3 point shooter in this era.

They're almost competing skills, there's so few that were truly elite at both.

I didn't realize Kawhi's FT% had increased over 10 percentage points throughout his career- from 77.3% to 88% in only six years. They used to show FT% graphic on TV more often when they were at the line, less so now. Anyway he might end up being the "best all time defender with >85% ft career shooting", more to the point.

He's crazy underrated defensively. He led the league in defensive win shares four years and is a career +2.5 in DBPM. He also made three All-defensive second teams. He might not have been the quickest laterally (although he actually was pretty quick earlier in his career) but he was so smart and always in the right position and had quick hands to get a lot of steals. He was also a great defensive rebounder which is part of defense.

Are you just looking at stats or did you watch him play? Because I know I was either not born or too young for a majority of his career.

Not many elite defenders can make a good scorer score 5 or 6 unless they quit like Harden.

That's the old narrative that was perpetuated at the time that Bird was an all-league defender. NO Way! He was voted 2nd team all defense but I never saw him lock anyone down, especially not the elite scorers like King, Wilkins, Erving or Jordan. The Celtics had excellent size up front which clogged the lane. Any statistic that tells you that Bird was a great individual defender should be disregarded.
