Nice to see everyone finally acknowledging that this is happening. But of course the debate then gets shuffled toward "concentration camps."
The conditions in the detention centers are improving albeit slowly. Im not an advocate of holding people but they aren't held long. The facilities are overwhelmed no doubt but Trump is requesting 4.5 billion to update them.
So jails are concentration camps in your scenario, since of course its inhabitants are waiting trail. No so different from the illegal immigrants being detained at the border.
To the underlined portion of your post.... Our country owes people we do not consider our own citizens absolutely nothing. That is not to say that providing aid may not be the right thing to do but we certainly do not owe that aid to anybody. Aid should always be measured against what we can afford with out causing a hardship to our own citizens. My take on AOCs concentration camp quote. Had a conservative made a similar quote every single left wing person would be screaming “False Equivalency”. The people in the detention centers are being held waiting to see a judge for entering a country illegally and then claiming asylum. People in concentration camps were gathered up to prevent leaving a country typically because they did nothing wrong, they just happened to be the wrong nationality. Those are pretty major differences.
Typical NewRoxFan post. Unintelligible and incapable of using sentences to support any sort of lucid thought.
Heh, this is about the level of lucid response this deserves. I've learned there is no point of debating against the defense of the indefensible. If that bothers you, there's a Ignore button that works wonders...
We have the means to care for these children in an appropriate manner regardless of how they came to our country. Placing them in squalor as punishment for being brought here illegally by their parents is reprehensible particularly when the crisis was the direct result of our government's policy of separating them from their families.
At first look, you are right we don't owe them anything. But about 90% of our cocaine is trafficked through that region, so we can't said we don't contribute to the violence, cartel and gang problems in the region. People are fleeting the region due to violence. We play a part. We also owe it to ourselves to humanely treat people in need, for our own current and future moral conscious. Sure, we need to be concern about what we can handle, but that's not an excuse for treating people fleeting violence inhumanly. And we do have the fund to. We are a very rich country. The essay describe the history of concentration camps and where they lead to. Look, we the people, have many check and balance in place in our gov because we are anal about trusting the gov to do the right and correct thing. We place some trust, but verify. Given history of how these camp ends up, we should definitely not just trust the gov and we should verify they aren't going down the path that historically these camps have gone down.
What’s your plan when the democrats refuse to fund any money to the border. Where was your faux outrage when the same thing was happening under Obama? I suppose you just want to release a bunch of minors to the streets?
The Democrats want to fund intelligent border security not a ridiculous wall. We aren't discussing Obama's mistakes in this thread, but I understand it is your white flag when you run out of bumper sticker talking points to defend Trump. Since you brought up Obama it's important to note his administration didn't exacerbate the problem by separating children from their families en masse. I want the children treated with dignity until we return them to their country of origin -- if you had any decency you would would want the same.
They are there for30 days. They are in a better condition than they were the previous few months. They are being fed something else that wasn't a given in the previous months before they got here Trump ran on no free pass. He is working with what he has and he is asking for money to make conditions better. The concentration camp analogy is mind boggling ridiculous
