Earlier today I got an Amber Alert on my cell phone. WTF? I was driving up 45 towards The Woodlands. Scared the hell out of me. It made that loud noise from the emergency message thing you get on TV or radio sometimes. It wasn't a text, but it definitely flashed on my phone. Anyone had this happen? When the heck did they start this?
Same thing happened to me. I was meeting with my boss and I had my phone on the desk. I usually keep it on vibrate/silent and it was going crazy. Do you have an iPhone? That's what I have.
I have an Android and the same thing happened to me. I figured this was normal for Iphone/Android users( I just moved to the Android world this summer ) so I thought oh ok, interesting. Could be dangerous when people are on the road, etc.
Happened to me also but I can't bring myself to turn it off. Someone is missing a child and if I can help prevent some sick evil **** from raping, torturing, suffocating and dismembering a kid then I'm down.
I have been laughing at my friends for getting them the past couple of months, but TODAY, I finally got one while at work. Scared the heck out of me too. Our office was quiet and all of a sudden 2 or 3 amber alert tones started going off. We all got one
Mine went off months ago while I was driving. I didn't know the volume on my phone could even go as loud as it did when the amber alert went off, so my first thought was that it was my car alerting me it was having a meltdown. Really can be a dangerous distraction on the road. I was in straight panic not knowing what was going on. How about a press release before they released that new feature? Turned it off in my settings later.
I think it's based on phone service. Like sprint a few months back just went crazy with this for everyone at work. Haven't gotten many since. They must have gotten complaints. It's a good idea in theory. In practice....not so much
