Williams and Mobley are close friends from childhood.

 

Steve must be jealous of that childhood love affair.

from what i remember, when Cat was a free agent, it was either Toronto or us, and said that Williams and Carter were trying hard to get him to Toronto but ended up with us.

I distinctly remember a very vocal contingent on the board calling Mobes a traitor for even contemplating signing with the raps.

exactly, it was after his rookie contract was up, i think it was only 2-3 years since he was a second round pick, it was one of the weird things in the CBA where we didnt have his bird rights or something? Which is why studs in the second round usually left their original team, ala Gilbert Arenas. I remember Francis' pitch to Cat was that we gave him the ball to win the game for us in the playoffs in '99 where Shaq blocked him.
