Is he the key member of a treadmill team or a second option on a championship team? Stone we are waiting…
Except he is regularly guarded 1 on 1 successfully by good defenders. Last night he did nothing we didn't already know he is capable of. Worked inside most one on one against a rookie defender with no experience against him and an overall decimate team. Similar to how he took apart Sarr last year. This year Sarr outplayed him. Outside of one 3-pointer didn't really hit any outside shots, didn't show anything that says "I can beat good defenders who know I can't shoot and will play me to try to get inside". Nice game from Sengun but you can't really take anything from this game.
Except he’s not. Just cuz you only see 1 guy on him doesn’t mean there isn’t 2 additional guys in the paint waiting for him when he drives. That is not 1 on 1 defense.
One thing last night does call to attention is that Sengun is quietly putting together the best steals/blocks year of his career, averaging 1.4 and 1.1 respectively. I've seen people talking about him regressing on defense, and I think there have been games where the effort has been poor and he's looked lazy out there. But in the games where he's trying hard, including last night, I think we're seeing some of the best defense of his career. I can still see the vision for him as a championship-caliber center, whether that's as a #1 or more of a #2 option. I think the main thing we're looking for from him right now is more consistency on the defense end and more efficiency away from the rim and all the way out to 3P range. So, I can see trading him in the right deal, but I think I'm not in a big rush to make something happen just because the fit is awkward with Amen. I'm also thinking about the possibility of trading Amen in the right deal, but I'd be really worried it would come back to burn us in a big way, and I think it's probably too soon for that as well. Overall, I think the guy I'd trade this offseason is actually KD. Get something back for him while his value is still solid and make somebody else pay for what may very well be his last two years in the NBA.
The Rockets do not even have a clue about championship caliber as they have not won since Hakeem, that was like 30 years ago.
his disruptiveness is at an all time high level. Similarly thought how much his handle improved. With good shooters surrounding him, he is looking like a complete player. I think the question is how much of his performance can be attributed to playing with a guard and shooters? Having Amen and Sengun together on the court is not easy and ime doesn’t have the smarts to figure things out. I am not sure what the right way to go is but if that fit doesn’t work, it is a disservice to both players to force it. personally I would go with Sengun because it is harder to find the correct role for Amen. But as you said you can regret it big time.
Literally no one drives into the paint or to the rim without a nearby opponent shading toward them. I mean you could argue Reed Sheppard gets double teamed too on any drive. It's the shading before they start the move or early in the move if they are farther away from the basket.
Alpi is at his best, when he is a playmaker. He needs to improve his defense and jump shooting. He has the potential to be a Jokic like player. Ime needs to recognize this.
More importantly, he's at his best when surrounded by shooters so that he's not double and triple teamed as often....or when he is, he has a pass available to a shooter. Amen kind of ruins that when he's on the court, and many of Ime's rotations put even more non-shooters on the court because he's an absolute moron.
I prefer to keep both Alpi & Amen because I believe a viable offense can be built around them if the other 3 players are good shooters but if it comes down to keeping one or the other you have to keep Alpi. We need more Senhub and a little Reedhub with both of them distributing and less Alpi & KD ISO's. It would be so easy to build a viable offense around our personnel but I do not think Ime is capable of doing it.
I am a HUGE Alpi fan and I'm thrilled that he had a monster game last night! The numbers that he put up for last nights triple double are very rare to say the least, having said that..... I HATE these type of posts! They are very niche and vague! He has a grand total of..... https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/ce...mes-with-25-points-10-rebounds-and-10-assists That was anticlimactic to say the least!! Regardless, ALPI DESERVES KUDOS for his performance!! Holly Molly.... the Joker is NO JOKE!!! Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
But look, him and Wemby are so young compared to everyone else on that list. Potential through the roof with the right personnel to convert those assists. That being said, yeah, that was anticlimactic indeed, and Joker is an all time great already.
Ah yes. The old Jalen Green "he's being double teamed constantly!" argument. Sengun gets walled off regularly 1v1. It doesnt take a second defender to send a double unless its someone who really cant deal with him. This is is his biggest issue and where he has shown the least growth. Draymond, Grant Williams, Jalen Duren, etc. He just hasnt been good enough.
we don’t base our opinions on ringer lists or stats posted in twitter accounts. Sengun did not improve in the last three years and is not doubled. Those are facts. You can see it if you take off your sof glasses.
