No real surprises in the A.L. other than Ichiro beating out Matsui (if you want to call that a surprise)...

Clemens will MOST LIKELY start; so will Kent. Berkman and Beltran also made it by player vote; however Beltran is unable to play in the game UNLESS there is a player injury. If that's the case, I can't imagine a better player than Beltran that McKeon would pick. Hence, Casey is on the DL No Everett; no Biggio, but the 32nd Man vote begins at 7 CST, possibly including Everett. EDIT: and the 32nd player vote goes by the 4 or 5 players who weren't voted by fans as starters, but came in second and weren't voted in by player/manager. EDIT 2: And Bagwell doesn't deserve to play since he's **** this year. THe only way Biggio will make it is if McKeon has compassion and more than a few player injuries/withdrawals.
Beltran won't get to play in the game because he was actually voted in as an AL star, not an NL one... he'll get to partake in all the festivities, be on the field, be considered an "all star"... but he won't get to actually play in the game.
I stand corrected. Final ballot for NL (terrible choices): B. Abreu, PHI S. Finley, ARI J. Kendall, PIT J. Pierre, FLA A. Ramirez, CHC And AL: L. Ford, MIN T. Hafner, CLE P. Konerko, CWS H. Matsui, NYY F. Thomas, CWS Vote if you want to: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2004/mlb_final_vote_form.html
Holy crap! Player Name Team Total Votes 1. Renteria, E. Cardinals 986,688 2. Everett, A. Astros 986,682
Sweet. My entire starting fantasy baseball roster (except for first base (Nevin) and a few pitchers) are All-Stars. No wonder I'm in first place...
Those numbers were posted about a week ago. The final numbers weren't released until today. Basically Everret trailed by 6 votes with a few days left and apparently couldn't make them up
