Alan 2 Sandwiches Williams has been toiling away in Phoenix this season getting inconsistent bench minutes until the last few weeks. He had two impressive games back to back so i took a look at all games in which he got > 20 minutes this year. There were 7 such games this season. In them he averaged: 14 pts, 11.4 rbs, 2.2 blks. He becomes a FA at the end of the year and should get a nice little contract if he finishes the year at this pace.

I watch him play versus Milwaukee and he is strong as hell. He grabs tons of rebounds and and can surprisingly finish around the hoop well. He does look slow and a bit overweight, though. And he's not going to be a rim protector. Also, while he does average big stats when he gets minutes he also gets in foul trouble. He averages four fouls in about 25 minutes and that's not good, he'd foul out if he ever tried to be a starter.

So, how many low minutes guys have their best games when they get big minutes. It's so strange. Harrell and Decker do, too. It's like magic. You give the guy more minutes and, voila, his production goes way up. Why you no do this coach!?!?!?!

Or did he have a good match-up and was playing with energy, and was hot, so the coach wisely left him in?

Nah, can't be, it's always the guy just needed more minutes.

That's all fine and dandy being on Parish's level but is he about to show the world he is on DoMo's level?

I'd say part of it is that they're rested. Going ~25 minutes once a week is way different than going 34 minutes week in and week out. But coaches leaving a hot player in certainly tilts the stats too. I think Williams has the "Barkley frame" where he's just so wide, he commands a lot of space under the rim. It makes up for only being 6'8. What surprises me is the blocks and the touch around the rim. Hopefully PHO has the sense to let him finish out the season so the league can see what he's got. He's a free agent at the end of the year so they may have some incentive to bury him a bit and resign him for a cheap deal.

Alan Williams continues to be balling... and to anyone who watched him on the Rockets summer league team a couple years back, it's no surprise.

He now has 8 straight double digit scoring games, and he has 6 double digit rebounding games in the same stretch.
So over his last 8 his averages are 14.5 ppg, 10.25 rpg, and 58% shooting in 25 mpg. Per 36 number its 21 ppg/15 rpg.

He's basically doing now what he did then. Great hands and finishing around the rim, solid, fundamental player that boxes out, sets good picks, etc. Not going to jump out of the gym. Not going to give you much outside the rim or paint (look slike he only has 8 shouts outside 10 feet, though he is 4-8 on those.

He is absolutely NOT a fit on this current Rockets squad. and to be fair, he may not be a fit on many teams anymore. He's an old school type player, and his height at 6-8 with nothing spectacular otherwise regarding vertical leap, reach, etc. make him an undersized PF and his game is more that of a center anyway.

But he is an NBA player for sure.

Yessir - i'm always fascinated with 6'8 (and under) guys who can throw up double digit rebounds. In the 90s this guy would've been a key contributor for a team, but now? His wingspan is 7' 1.5 which (combined with low hops) does not seem to be enough for rim protection. For reference: Clint Capela was measured at: 7' 3.5, DeAndre Jordan 7' 6, and (for PFs) Lamarcus Aldridge 7' 4. What kind of team would need him? I'd say a team with a 3 PT shooting Center. Put him next to Marc Gasol, Embiid, KAT. On offense he stays near the rim for offensive rebounds or sets picks (defenders have to travel a long way to get around Williams). On defense, the Centers challenge at the rim and Williams is there to secure the rebound.
