Does this really have to be explained to you?

Reed has had 40 pa's. He hasn't proved or disproved anything. Singleton has.

Aj Reed wasn't that good in triple AAA.

He started off slow but was on a tear when he was called up.

A lot of those guys weren't all that fat when they came up.

If you get fat while already establishing yourself as a quality hitter, that's fine... and lovable. If you're already fat and can't get your swing going, that's crappy.

That picture above showed that he's definitely put on some weight... and not in the good way.

He's a big kid; here's a pic of him his first pro season:

Doesn't, frankly, look terribly different, does he?:

Its hard for a rookie to get his bat going when he goes from playing every day to every two days.

For the record, I didn't want this to turn into a "Lets **** on A.J. Reed" thread... just wanted to see if there was a possible explanation for his poor start at AAA that coincided with even more weight gain.

He's a big guy, no doubt. If he needs to be sent back down to work on things/play everyday with a pending call-up, I'm sure he's still going to be better for the MLB exposure.

Sure...but you're better off losing the weight...there are no downsides to it, whereas weight can only hurt you.

If they had considered him eligible (he wasn't because he was in MLB at the time), the prospect list guys pretty much all said he would have been in the top 10-20 of all players.

Give him some time. Bregman may suck for a bit too, just be patient.

He has 41 PA now, that's a massive 10 game sample. Clearly enough to make a call.

I don't think he looks fat. I think he looks hefty. Which I don't think is a problem for a man. Especially a first baseman .

And to just follow up how stupid any major judgement is at this point. In his first 4 games he went 0-15 with 8 K's.

Since then, over his last 23 PA he's slashing .250/.348/.550. So he may now be our best hitter.

He hasn't looked great, and has some clear adjustments he needs to make, but hasn't looked completely overmatched. Even when you are a good team trying to compete for a pennant, you have to continue working in the young prospects. Sometimes that means you may have to take a short term hickey while they try to make the adjustment.

This. Baseball teams use a ton of players. They are going to need prospects to develop.

Agreed... and some of that does happen at the MLB level. #Bregxit!
