He got what he wanted...now he wants to crawl into a corner in the fetal position. Nice block last game thou
Honestly, this is a bad match up for Clint as they can take away the lob from him. I am happy to see Clint making right plays to open 3 point shooters after catching the ball instead of forcing the shot against help defenders.
I'm kind of tired of some you guys sh-tting all over the Rockets players. The playoffs are multiple games of match ups. GSW is a bad match up for Clint. Draymond has to ability to cover Harden on drives and cover Clint on lobs like no one else on the planet. We all Hate Draymond's punk-ass face, but he is a TREMENDOUS defender. Clint's elite ability is speed; he out runs his defender for easy buckets or pulls the defense away from Harden and other shooters by his rim running. Draymond Green is the fastest player end to end on the Warriors team as a Power Forward effectively nullifying everything Clint does well.. When Clint or Nene were out there, they were scraping until the were subbed out, that's all you can ask for. Clint had multiple assists to wide open 3 point shooters.
NeNe has outplayed him in limited minutes, so it's not like Warriors can completely take out a traditional center and their small ball is to blame, this is on Clint to try to figure it out. Likely a match-up issue though, he has destroyed top centers like KAT and Gobert in the playoffs, its not like he suddenly sucks.
It's the nature of the match up. 20 minutes is pretty good considering players like Bell and Bogut have been rendered useless getting 0 minutes, and Looney, who I thought was going to be more present in this series, is also averaging 20 minutes. We got hunters, killers and snipers on the court at all times. If your feetwork isn't right on the perimeter on defense prepare to relinquish these ankles
He answered that in his post. Offensively, it’s always been a brutal matchup for him, and it’s now worse that the Warriors have committed to stopping the lob. Defensively, when the Warriors go small, Clint has to guard Draymond Green at the three point line, or he gets one of the Warriors three guards or Durant in a switch, who can all expose him one on one. It’s simply a bad matchup. When Looney is in, Capela should be in. Otherwise, Clint is at a disadvantage in this series.
He out rebounded the Warriors today when he was on. He did his part. But yea the line with Durant who is as tall and athletic as him just isn't working. He does need to be more physical. But yes this isn't the best matchup
Capela never was and never will be particularly helpful against the Warriors. He just has to survive in his limited minutes this series. He can't win on switches to Durant or Curry (2 of the 3 best perimeter weapons in the league) If we somehow put these b**ches away, he will be invaluable the rest of the way.
Clint has been mr. butter fingers in both series. remarkably different than in the regular season. And remarkably different than all previous postseasons. He's lost some mojo for no apparent reason. Harden's lobs have been all over the freaking place this playoff. And that's part of it. But Clint has played soft. Activate playoff mode please.
I like Clint... but while he's had a few moments, overall he's been hard to watch this series... Take away the lobs and his offense disappears... he'll get the occasional putback but if he has to dribble - he's in trouble... and even if he avoids the dribble and just has to go up with it he usually telegraphs where he's going - and someone is there to meet him... We really need Hakeem to work with him on his post game - at least find a couple fakes or misdirection... and he still needs some more muscle so he's not so easily stripped... something to work on in the off season.... he seems like he works at it so i'm sure he can improve...
I truly believe Capela is sick. He looked a lot better against these same Warriors last year. Whatever is wrong with him I hope he recovers soon.
Like you said Nene has outplayed him. Nene at 36 years old has outplayed him. He needs to get aggressive. He needs to take a chapter from Mutombo's book and learn the art of the elbow. He'll get a foul called on him maybe once or twice. He might even get a tech or flagrant but the next time they try to stop him they will think twice or three times. Especially with how short they are from the bench. Use ur elbows to create space.
What's weird is that I remember him being pretty damn good last year in defensive isolations, even stripping and blocking Curry. I don't know if Clint is still sick, slower, or if Harden has improved his lateral quickness (or hand strip speed), or if it's a strategy to remove bigs from rim protection, but the Warriors plan A is to get the switch off PnR and attack Capela (or Nene) with Durant or Curry. Last year, Nene was absolutely roasted by Durant in game 1 and MDA couldn't trust him in the defensive system afterwards. Last year, plan A for the Warriors was to attack Harden, and they relentlessly did so. I think game 1 of last year broke the record for defensive isos vs Harden, at least it seemed that way. The Warriors strategy is just different this year and time and time again, Durant and Curry find Capela and attack off the dribble for pullups, layups, and creating open 3's. That's why he can't play when they absolutely need defensive stops.
