The Patriots that haven't won anything in over 10 years? You think there's a conspiracy to help them?
We should also draw the line where it is acceptable for one SO to hit the other; for example is a punch to the gut still excessive? Open hand slap to the face? How about beating that SO with a switch; as long as they don't bleed? Spoiler /sarcasm

I agree with you. I don't think Peterson was trying to do wrong and boys especially need to have pushing and shoving disciplined at an early age. Luckily this is in Montgomery County and he may get off. Times are changing. When I was growing up folks would have just told him to be more careful. Maybe there is more to the story than we know. However based on what we know I see nothing positive with charging him.
I threatened to report my dad to the police for child abuse after a whooping, he told me he would drive me to the station, so we got in the car, and then from the passenger seat I chickened out before we left the driveway. Good times!
I was questioning that you thought something is ok because culture says it is, or was, at some point. At some point, women were far inferior than men, so I'm sure that involved some hitting, but we've evolved out of that. Perhaps we should be evolving out of child abuse, as well, because that's what this is. As for your second point, the kid also had a disagreement with the bigger person and got taken advantage of by them. There's a reason why spankings are traditionally given at the meatier portions of the body. You can give a kid an effective scare that way, especially at 4. There's no good disciplinary reason to take it, not one, but two steps further by taking his pants off and then striking his front side. The only reason is to inflict significant pain, which is also a violent ending to the argument.
But you were knocked the f out and had a helluva knot on your head and a swole jaw and I bet you werent bullying another woman to get your whippin.
He wasn't supporting Ray Rice or even President Obama. I don't agree with everything RR says but saying he will always support someone because they are black is a cop out.
