    Scottish Gaelic?

Trump doesn't want to come off as homophilic either.

If there's a Congressional circus, you know that Louie Gohmert will make an appearance. He was wondering why Whitaker was even testifying:

“I don’t know what kind of suicide wish you had or whatever, but it’s good to see you,” he said.

Gohmert then read Whitaker portions of his opening statement about crime and the southern border, which the acting attorney general failed to recognize.

This was hard to follow. From the tone, it appeared he was attacking Whitaker, but he is a Republican who was seemingly attacking the instructions re: the investigation. I don't understand how one investigates a crime without investigating certain people's role in the alleged crime?? What was his point here?

I think representative jordan is trying to describe Mueller's investigation as a "witch hunt" and that the witch is trump. I guess representative jordan thought differently during the previous administration as one of the lead "hunters", especially going after former Secretary of State Clinton.

What was that stuff about names? Seems like if you are discussing an investigation, names might be a good place to start. (I get it if it said "find some dirt on X. But, seems perfectly reasonable to say investigate whether trump or his following colleagues colluded with the Russians)

I don't really know what jordan wanted to accomplish other than appeal to the black hat/white hat deep state crowd. whitaker, even if he knew what was on those documents, wasn't going to be able to talk at all about them. jordan's unsubstantiated effort to suggest that rosenstein (appointed by trump) directed Mueller to investigate trump was ridiculous.

Crimes are the genesis of an investigation, not people. If the mandate from Rosenstein specifically tells Mueller to investigate a person then that's a grave injustice and would definitely be cause to shut down the investigation. What Rosenstein should of ordered is for Mueller to investigate some specific crime that is known to have taken place and who was involved in said crime.

It would be like if the chief of police ordered his investigator to look into jcf.

Authorization for a special council requires a specific factual statement that a crime has been committed.

    https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/28/600.4

Initially when he authorized the SC in May 2017, Rosenstein provided no such specific factual statement, which the law requires him to do. In a CYA move he drafted another memo in August 2017 claiming he did do this (no written record of a specific factual statement exists from the time the SC was appointed). It is largely redacted, of course. So no member of the public, not even Congress (except maybe the Intel committee heads, not sure about this), knows the factual basis for appointing the SC to investigate the freaking president of the united states.

When are going to stop gobbling up all this horseshit you are fed?

    From your link:

    From the 5.17. memo:

The follow up detailed memo...of course it is redacted, except for the parts that have already been made public through trials and indictments. They aren't going to reveal specifically the detailed matters they are investigating for a plethora of reasons.

This explains why some of the house members bared down on whitaker during last week's hearing.

more reporting of Trump's obstruction of Justice

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/19/us/politics/trump-investigations.html

In the midst of the Stormy Daniels / Karen McDougal news cycle, Trump had called Matthew G. Whitaker, his newly installed attorney general,
    to put Geoffrey S. Berman,

the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York and a Trump ally,
in charge of the widening Cohen investigation, according to several American officials with direct knowledge of the call.

Whitaker, who had privately told associates that part of his role at the Justice Department was to “jump on a grenade” for the president, knew
he could not put Mr. Berman in charge,

since Mr. Berman had already recused himself from the investigation.
Whitaker was not stupid enough to un-recuse Berman. Trump soon soured on Whitaker, as he often does with his aides, and complained
about his inability to pull levers at the Justice Department that could make the president’s many legal problems go away.

...and here I was, sooooo looking forward to seeing Mr. Whitaker "jump on a grenade" for the Donald...

...I guess maybe there ARE some things one doesn't bother making oneself a bloody smear on the wall for, after all...;)
