I look at this poll as similar to the Superstar poll… I don’t think we Currently have a Superstar, but we do have a number of players that project as all stars. I am looking forward to watching the team as a whole grow and improve and maybe 1-2 of the current roster becomes a Franchise player over the next 2-3 years. Team should be fun to watch… unlike the last few years.
Not until a player actually wins the championship for the team can he called a franchise player. Until then, only Hakeem Olajuwon can be Houston's franchise player. Otis Thorpe, Vernon Maxwell, Carl Herrera, Sam Cassell, Mario Elie, and Clyde Drexler. Ok add Pete Chilcutt and Kenny Smith. Ralph Sampson came pretty close -- Ralph to me is THE LA Lakers Killer or assassin. Watching his last second shot in game5 in 1986 was better than a six second orgasm. =) Remains to be seen who can bring a championship to Houston and be called a franchise player. Steve Francis doesn't even come close.
I just can't understand how people can vote for Amen, who hasn't played in a single NBA game yet. Are you people this hungry for a savior?
That's really not how folks use the term franchise player to describe someone that is crucial to a team.
I think if you have to ask the question, then you already have the answer. We don't have one. But we have a talented group of youth and hopefully one will emerge. Multiple possibilities.
They will be standing on each other's toes but there will be at least 2 that will be above everyone else. Spoiler
