    I'd think Phil Garner returning?

We can't resign anyone at this point can we?

Vandemere and Foster said it wasn't about Garner.

They thought it might be about Kent.

It has to either be Kent or Garner.

I still say Kent doesn't qualify as a major announcement.

    Gotta be Garner.

    Or maybe, just maybe....LIMA TIME!!!

Well, looking at the Rockets forum, it could be regarding their new tv deal with FSN that will give them a significant bump in their TV revenue (which should be completely invested back into the players... meaning increased payroll... meaning BELTRAN!!... okay, i'm dreaming now).

But, there's a good chance its the tv deal.

if its the TV deal, i call this is a blatant tease

something like that calls for a press release from the PR department, not a "major" announcement hype

It's not Garner and even if it was would that really be consider a major announcement.

Kent maybe?? I don't think that would be a major announcement?

    Edit

The TV deal would be a stupid "MAJOR" announcement

Actually, if it was player news, it would be leaked in a more straight-forward manner.

The fact that they are putting a teaser out there screams that its something either promotional (ticket prices), a new partnership/sponsor deal, or a television contract.

Astros need to get a special exemption from the Commish to hire Garner full-time. MLB has a rule that a minority candidate must be interviewed for all managerial positions, even though in this case it would merely be a sham interview. It's possible that they've resolved this, but I haven't heard anything.

I would bet it's about the TV deal.

Not if it gives the team the increased revenue to resign Beltran.

Those Media Hogs! In this case why isnt it the Rockets making a "MAJOR" announcement!?!?

We will be watching the Rockets on there sooner than the Astros!!!

If its over $20 million per year (as Barron reported in the chronicle), that would represent more than a $7 million increase alone from their current tv deal.

That money, if invested into payroll, already could give them a much better shot at keeping Beltran, Berkman, Oswalt, and Lidge long term.

I don't think it's the tv deal. Why would they call a press conference and expect other tv stations to report on a tv deal? I bet most of them wouldn't even mention it if that is just the case.

Drayton is selling the team while it is hot. Tilman Fratitta (sp) will be the new owner with money to burn !!!

    As of 10/30...
The Astros-Rockets "Regional Sports" network plans are officially scrapped. The Rockets and Astros both signed with Fox Sports Net today (rumor is the deal could be up to 15 years and up to $250 million).

They better not interrupt Romey for this crap. I cant wait to hear him give it to the Pats. Hopefully the Texans will get some more nationwide props too.
