So we lost Bouye for a laughable reach on a TE "prospect" that is already a senior citizen despite being raw and having a very little upside? I LIKE IT!!!
Imagine him getting Rookie hazed next year. He’s gonna be like mofo I’m your uncles age. Respect my old ass. He’s also considered to be raw and a few years away? Brandon Weeden and him will be best buds.
Basically BOB fell in love with him and wasted our pick on him. Nothing special athletically about him, could pick up a guy like this year in and year out in any round you want.
ESPN: Akins, 25, pursued a professional baseball career after high school. He projects as a flex tight end with the skills to make an immediate impact as a situational receiver but needs to make strides as a blocker to play a bigger role. Rotoworld: Texans selected UCF TE Jordan Akins with the No. 98 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. Akins (6’3/249) will be a rare 26-year-old rookie after taking up football following a four-year minor-league career with the Texas Rangers. Akins played wideout and kickoff returner his first two years at UCF before converting to tight end and starting his final two seasons, graduating with a 79/1,093/13.8/8 career receiving line. Although Akins is a standout all-around athlete, his lack of college dominance at such an advanced age and well below-par blocking are significant red flags. Akins would do well to carve out a Richard Rodgers-like career. CBS Sports: (B) They take a pass-catching tight end who will help Deshaun Watson. | Older prospect with plus athleticism and ability to catch the ball outside his frame. Yards-after-the-catch abilities are impressive. Split out tight end only in the NFL SI: Jordan Akins | TE | UCF Scouting Report: Akins is a quality athlete who won’t blow the doors off with his speed, but he has enough twitch, body control and natural feel to create separation. He gets off the line quickly and has enough speed to at least threaten up the seam, but he should be able to shake linebackers at the intermediate level. He’s a tough runner on shorter catch-and-run plays as well. He does little as a blocker and will essentially be a big slot receiver at the next level. He’s also 26 years old, and likely has little growth left as an athlete.
Bleacher Report Strengths: Athleticism. Weaknesses: Blocking, injury background, age. Jordan Akins is like Hayden Hurst taken to illogical extremes. He spent four years out of high school in the Texas Rangers’ low minors, batting .218 before giving football a whirl. He tore his ACL after a few games for Central Florida in 2015, but he came back to have a few productive years as a man among mid-major boys. Akins is a good athlete who catches the ball well, but we’ve probably already seen his upside. He’s areal reach here, when there are still quality tight end prospects available with fewer concerns. Grade: D
How do you make this pick lol you pass up on quality TE's in free agency for a busted draft pick named atkins.
Man, so many guys I would rather have had. Holton Hill, Tyrell Crosby, Kyle Lauletta, Deion Cain, Jamarco Jones, Dashawn Hand, Desmond Harrison, hell, even Michael Dickson would have been a better pick.
He's rated higher than Ian Thomas on walterfootball.com, take that with a grain of salt, but it's something
Yea not sure about this pick in the 3rd round given his age and background. Seems like they fell in love with him during the senior bowl, had tunnel vision, and reached at a position of need
