Obviously Kyrie needs to be in, but wouldn't that be awesome to see Kobe try and do his thing? MJ was unstoppable in the post in his 40s and in a half court setting, much older players can still play. Would love to see retired players entering. Imagine if this was around in 1994 for example and Magic, Bird and Isiah played together after each was retired.
Looked boring, but having less guys on the court could make the post game have a comeback. Dominant post player and 2 shooters could dominate this.
I SKIMMED the rules, couldn't figure out if it was make-it-take-it. If so, a dominant post player could be huge, especially one that can draw and make FT's. It'll be very interesting to see what kind of strategies emerge. If this is a success you'll see sets & strategies trickle down to kids playing street ball. It'll be good for the game.
I watched USA vs Serbia in the FIBA 3 on 3 World Championships. I expected to see lots of pick n' roll and lots of screens to free guys for the 2 pointer. But, damned if I even saw a single screen. Just 1 on 1 drives and quite a few deep balls. Neither team went with a dominant big man. All 6 guys were relatively versatile guard/forward types. The most interesting thing about this to me is the newness of it. I am looking forward to seeing how it evolves as it gains interest and smarter and better players get involved.
From the video on the first page, it looks like it was defense's ball after a make. And it's a continuous game even after a make. They just picked up the ball and immediately passed out to start the play.
This is like adding sand volleyball to the olympics or BMX -- at first you're like lame then it starts growing on you. I can get into this I think once every 4 years.
man kobe could probably still own this and you won't have to worry about injuries with him. kobe baron davis white chocolate have royce "high flyer" white be a sub for any needed fouls. edit: there are plenty ex nba guys you can plug in and still dominate: garnett, iverson, jerry lin, battier, is artest still in the league? hell you can even put in the professor for good measure. then have charles coach the team.
so it's basically bunch of ex-college level rejects. i'm thrilled already. does the big3 league count at least?
Wonder where they would hold this in Tokyo. It needs to be a cool setting. Like a roof top or something.
They need "make it take rules" with a check -- I don't like the way a team can immediately pass to the 3 point line and shoot after a score.
I know that's what they're trying to do but it's not going to work out that way I don't think. Beach volleyball is different in skillset required enough from normal volleyball that there are two separate talent pools. The best volleyball players don't necessarily make the best beach volleyball players. The best 3-on-3 basketball players are likely all in the NBA, so it's going to be hard to shake the feeling that we're just watching a crappy version of an established sport.
3-on-3 is a very similar add like beach volleyball. From a TV standpoint, I can see the networks showing those late at night 11pm EST like they did with beach volleyball last olympics. I don't anticipate any NBA players in this. Likely "G-league" players.
