27 words people widely suck at

well, i woke up to get me a cold POP.......................

 

and band-aid is a brand..

but people still call these band-aids..

 

The difference is that there isn't really another word for band-aid, because "bandage" could mean any kind of wound dressing and not just specifically "a small strip of adhesive bandage with a piece of gauze/dressing in the middle". Band-Aid brand had the market cornered on those for so long that it stuck (ha), I guess.

Coke, OTOH, is a specific brand of a product range that has many different generic terms, including terms that existed before Coca Cola.

 

Band-Aid is understandable because all of them are pretty much the same no matter what the brand is.

Soda/pop is different. Coke, Sprite, and Mountain Dew are not all pretty much the same.

This is kinda silly to argue about but it makes absolutely no sense to a Northerner like myself.

 

band-aid is generic for any adhesive bandage now. Band-aid goes by band-aid brand. The same is not true for cocacola.

 

They should do this same thing for England and Australia, too...and Scotland.

 

What about Xerox for copy, or Kleenex for tissue?

I do agree about Coke though. If I'm drinking a Dr. Pepper, I'm not calling it a Coke.

 

I love the way Houston appears to be the only city in the country that uses the word feeder

I never knew until I left town and got a stupid look when I used the term.

I didn't see it on the list, but the worst is 'SUPPOSABLY'. I immediately assume someone is completely r****ded (for lack of a better word) when 'supposably' comes out of their mouth, other than in a mocking manner.

'IRREGARDLESS' is not very far behind. These two 'words' really grind my gears.

 

Outside the US, English speakers call it a "plaster."

I think it's correct, but a more general term.
