I still think it's possible that the Texans would trade Davis Mills during the draft. If the Texans received a 2nd round pick from the Jets or Cardinals for Mills would you pull the trigger?
That would be great value for Mills, however with how CJ completely **** the bed in the playoffs and there’s no telling how his confidence level and gameplay will be this upcoming season, I wouldn’t move Mills as he knows the system and would be serviceable if the unthinkable happens with CJ.
The Seattle Seahawks situation needs to be explored. They only have 4 picks in the draft and desperately want to trade back. The Seahawks want to pick RB Jadarian Price but believe he would be available at 38.Would you trade pick 38 and 104 to Seattle for the 32nd overall pick. Texans use the 1st pick on a offensive tackle and then use the 32nd pick on a DT or LB. What do you think?
I know we're not pursuing a QB in the draft, but several of my draft games have had Ty Simpson available at 38. Would we consider drafting him as a potential Backup or replacement making Mills available for a trade? I know we can't sign and trade, but i don't know how long we have to keep him before he is eligible to trade as an option. I'm just wondering if we would truly take the best available player if we liked our existing room if a player was available we did not expect to be there.
No, I want to see how CJ plays next yr and draft a QB in the better 2027 draft. I've actually got Nuessmier rated ahead of Simpson. Allar has the ability to be a starting QB in the NFL, BUT it will take a lot of coaching.
I hope not.Ty has his own questions. Besides, I want to use our top picks on guys that are going to see the field now and help us win NOW. I don't want any developmental guys and that includes OL, at least within the first 4 rounds. We have two picks in the 5th and I might consider using one on a center but that's about it. My hope is to get Kayden McDonald at 28 and then I believe we should take Oscar Delp at TE at 38. He's 6'5, 245, and ran a 4.48 40 at Georgia Pro Day. I believe he would be a great and transformational weapon for our offense. Here is a summary of Delp from Draft Buzz. Scouting Report: Summary Watch the Delp's tape and you will see him lined up wide or in the slot far more often than inline next to the tackle. That tells you everything about where his value is right now. He is a move tight end, someone you flex out to create favorable matchups against linebackers and slower safeties. When he gets a clean release and works up the seam, he can separate in a way that very few players at his position can. The 43-yard catch against Texas showed what that looks like when everything clicks, and the Tennessee game in 2024 gave you a glimpse of his red zone upside with two scores. The speed translates. The question is how often he will get those clean looks at the NFL level. Where he needs time is the dirty work. On tape, run blocking reps show him getting displaced too easily by bigger defenders who can get into his chest. He leans too far forward getting into his blocks and lacks the anchor to sustain. His pass protection actually looked much improved as a senior, and there were reps where his hand placement and base showed real technique. But asking him to hold up consistently as an inline Y against NFL edge rushers right now is not realistic. He is a sub-package player early, and there is nothing wrong with that if the receiving skills keep developing. The production question is fair. Delp never topped 24 catches or 284 yards in a single season at Georgia, and while some of that was sharing targets in a loaded offense, four years is enough tape to notice that contested-catch situations gave him real trouble. The foot injury bears watching, though Kirby Smart vouched for his durability and all medical reports are clean. For an offense that wants to spread the formation and attack the middle of the field, Delp gives you a weapon with a genuine speed advantage over most tight ends in this class. He just needs time and reps to round out the rest of his game
I'm a huge Delp fan. I disagree with this scouting report. Delp is a better than avg blocking TE and was used mainly as a blocking TE last yr, hence the 14 catches. On a side note, Delp was the number one rated TE recruit coming out of high school/
I don't see the Texans using the 38th pick for a TE. My money would be on the Texans using their top 2 picks on defensive tackle and corner depending on how the board falls.
Picking Delp at 38 would fill a massive need at TE and help us immensely this season, but you're probably correct.
LOL. At this point you might not get a second for CJ. I’d be surprised if anyone would give up a 4th.
It's not a "massive need". Schultz set the franchise record for receptions in a season. His dead cap hit also guarantees he is here 2 more years. They have Stover, Jordan. Plus they added Moreau in the off-season. Believe me, I would love to upgrade over Schultz and his weak blocking, but they already have a lot invested in the position. Corner is a much bigger need in my mind. It's clear based on their signings and trading for Montgomery they want to RUN the ball. I could see a strong blocking TE later in the draft.
I think Schultz is mediocre and when he's out we have nobody. I believe that Delp would be a massive upgrade. I do agree that we need a third CB, preferably one that can start as a nickel.
