Hopes he gets hot? Man, be real. Lukewarm would be a blessing and a miracle.

Meyers hasn't shown much on the offensive end. A .237 BA and .740 OPS isnt turning any heads.

Meyers has been one of the 10 best offensive CF in baseball this season (min 40 pa). Fwiw so has Dubon. Meyers is 7th in mlb cf in ISO. Meyers has been excellent so far and it’s pretty clear he should be playing more unless there’s a minor injury they’re trying to protect him from.

Well I have my opinions and I try to be consistent.

.237 AVG means nothing in 2024.

A gold glove caliber CF w/ a .740 OPS in 2024 is an All Star with enough playing time.

Yet I have very little faith in Meyers as the long term answer in CF. Hopefully he's building his trade value back up from the zero trade value that he had coming into this season.

Ok I just did some quick research and I exaggerated a bit.

But gold glove defense and .740 OPS is a valuable regular starter in CF.

Stephen Kwan played 158g and had over 700 PA last year w/ .710 OPS and winning a GG last year and doesn't even play CF.

Kevin Kiermaier played 129 games last year winning a GG and his .741 OPS was his best since 2017 and he has only exceeded it twice.

There are close to a dozen OF GG winners the past 10 seasons who were primary starters and had OPS of under .740

But it makes no sense to play a guy who does not play GG defense and also has never had an OPS of over .740 in any season w/ over 110 PAs regularly ahead of him.

Derek Jeter is excited to find someone who likes Gold Gloves as a measure of excellent defense.

I am okay with with a mediocre defensive CFer if we have a firstbaseman that doesn't put the game on the line with every single ground ball.

Yeah, the AL is kind of loaded with CF. There’s Trout, Julio, Mullins, and Roberts (injured though). And now you’ve got Aaron Judge there, who actually isn’t bad out in CF defensively either.

Don’t really understand the Meyers usage so far either. He would be the perfect CF for this team if we were even getting average production out of 1B. Dubon has been the only player hitting consistently with RISP, something this team is lacking, once again especially out of 1B. So I get wanting to get his bat in the lineup. That said, I’ve said this too many times at this point, I just don’t understand why he’s been unwilling to give Dubon a look at 1B. It’s not like Abreu is giving a good defensive performance over there…
