.221 xwOBA over Yuli's last 50 PA. .253 xwOBA over his last 100 PA. There's no signs of life. Play him right now, whatever - these games don't mean very much. But he can't be in the post-season starting lineup.
I agree. As much as I love Yuli he needs to be in a bench bat role in the playoffs. Of course Mancini should be in the everyday lineup, but any of McCormick, Diaz, and Vazquez deserve preference to be in the lineup ahead of Gurriel.
Who's Hot (since August 1) 1. Bregman 1171 14G 2. Tucker 976 12G 3. Altuve 919 15G 4. Mancini 831 11G 5. Maldonado 803 10G Who's NOT: 8. Alvarez 579 14G 9. Gurriel 555 12G 10. Dubon 551 9G 11. Vasquez 546 10G 12. Meyers 500 10G 13. Pena 472 13G
And not sure if Astros had interest but Benintendi hasn't been great since going to the Yankees as well.
I can not argue with you there. Wonder if hitting coaches know he is finished or think he has the yips or what. But Yuli in the lineup come playoff time does make me nervous. There is just nothing about his performance (todays 2 hit 1 rbi game not withstanding) that tells me he will get the big hit in the postseason.
I posted about trading for Gallo half tongue in cheek but in retrospect that would have been a smart move with Bratnley’s absence.
If the Astros had interest, I wonder if the Yankees would have traded him to us if the best offer was from Houston. Would they have been afraid he would come back to haunt them if they meet in the playoffs or did they feel he was so bad and a liability, he would have made Houston worse, giving them the advantage in a head to head matchup?
