This is legitimately terrible. Kopech will never happen for a springer rental. On a talent basis alone. Also, the White Sox are built to contend for years and are not going to sell their top pitching prospect. They have an excellent offense with Abreu, Robert, Eloy, moncada, Anderson. If anything, they'll want more pitching. And the White sox literally cannot deal Patino. He plays for San Diego.
I didn't say Patino played for the White sox. Just threw another name out there. There are teams who are gonna be desperate to add another player of significants. Pitino and Myers and leave Myers contract alone. Js.
CLE gets: RF Josh Reddick HOU gets: RHP Ethan Hankins (8) 1B/OF Jake Bauers Indians get much needed help in the outfield with a hot bat. We get their #8 prospect, a former first rounder who has a great fastball. Hasn’t risen up prospect lists, but the stuff is still there and I like him. We also get a lefty 1B who can also play OF, I’ve talked about Bauers before, he’s been praised for his plate discipline, and maybe Bergman can help him even more.
I'd be intreasted in McKenzie and Hankins Bauers would be a add on Would sweeten the pot with Josh Reddick, Josh James and a PTBNL
Reddick has almost no surplus value. Even if Houston covered his entire contract, the most they could hope to get for him would be a back end Org top 30 type.
Astros should be a buyer for bullpen help. Like Trevor Rosenthal. Cheap salary, no long term contract, has found upper 90s fastball. @Snake Diggit what would we need to give to get someone like Rosenthal?
An interesting arm from the back end of the top 30 should do it. One of Jojanse Torres, Shawn Dubin, Brett Conine, or Luis Garcia. But trying to gauge this trade market is total guesswork at this point.
Rosenthal is a near lock to be traded. Bullpen arms are always chased at the deadline, the Royals are dead last in their division with the weakest roster on paper, and he's on a 1-year deal. What they'll take is going to be interesting. The wild card, however, is, maybe they extend him, since Matheny was his manager in STL, and maybe he really loves him. I'd trade any of the guys you mentioned except Conine (higher on him than most) for him.
In an ideal world, we trade for Bauer and put him in our bullpen and trade for Kelly just to dump/release him.
My 2 cents: At his age (he'll enter his age 37 season next year), he'll probably want security. Since he waited so long to defect from Cuba, this is his first time hitting FA. Coming off a strong year, there will be a market for him. Love to have him back, but money talks.
Gurriel entered the league as essentially a free agent; Houston paid him nearly $50M. Of course like almost all free agents he will be looking to secure as much money as possible, but this won’t be a situation where a guy who made nothing for 3 years then arbitration for 3 years is looking for his one big payday. Yuli is having a great year and if he keeps it up it will certainly increase his value. But the market for 37 year old 1B who have put up ~9 war over ~4 seasons is going to be limited. His absolute ceiling would be something like $54M/3yrs. But more likely he will be looking at something in the $30M/2yrs range. If he slumps or gets hurt he could be looking at half that. I like Yuli and think he will continue to age well due to his regimen and low mileage. But I don’t think he is a very good value over about $25M/2yr.
