She still seems to be playing well overall even with a few mistakes.

She has extraordinary stamina. She has done a ton of sprinting today.

I disagree. She's the focus of the defense and drawing players to her anytime she checks for the ball or makes a run. She's creating space for the mids to run through by drawing so much attention.

A bullsh*t offside call stealing a goal from the US to make it 3-0 turns into a France goal minutes later making it 2-1. WTF is the point of VAR if they're not going to correct mistakes like calling offside when there was none?

Yeah, that last pass that ultimately resulted in the second goal was nice.

I'm not a soccer purist, so I don't know much about the strategy of the game. But Alex Morgan, to get this money, needs to score goals, right? She isn't playing badly, but she's not getting those glittery moments that show up on sports center.

While she hasn't scored since her 5 against Thailand, she's still incredibly important to the success of the team...and she's still tied for the Golden Boot lead (most goals in the tournament).

And don't worry about her, financially. She's doing fine. While she's the highest paid player in the NWSL, she makes her money from plenty of endorsements.

A friend of mine is at the Cup and just posted a video from the post game celebration.

    It's a bunch of USA fans chanting "E-QUAL-PAY, E-QUAL-PAY".

    Cringe.

I'm assuming you've never been to an overseas tournament? How much cringeworthy stuff do you want to see?

And yes, that is lame, but at least it's civilized.

I would say 'More pay, significantly more pay' would be fair as I dun see Women Soccer generate as much money, not even close.

There is not much one can do but perhaps it is just the fight that matters and not the results......

The Dutch are a little worrisome to me. Big and strong with talent. They’re going to be tough...if they can beat a very talented Sweden team. Still, we have to get through England. They’re not the most experienced but they’re good enough to beat us. I just think we have that little extra right now that the other teams don’t have. We’re the favorite but it ain’t gonna be easy.

One other way of looking at it...

The women have never not been to at least the semifinals of the WWC.

The men have been to 1 semifinal. In 1930. It was the first World Cup, where there were a total of 13 teams and only the group winners advanced straight to the semis.

Another fun tidbit. The women scored more goals against Thailand (13) than the men did in their last 3 World Cups combined (12).
