They can't let him stay in CC much longer. I don't think he's gonna struggle hitting any minor league pitching. Could be a great postseason option as a reserve OFer.
Brandon Bielak vs. Lynchburg: 5 IP, 2 H, 6 K Chas McCormick's RBI double is currently the only scoring play in this game. Hector Perez is now on the mound for Buies Creek...
Perez completed the shutout by walking two and striking out two over the last four innings in Buies Creek's 1-0 win. Taylor Jones has a solo homer (8) for Corpus.
Cionel Perez has pitch great this minor league season. He will probably be given a chance to take Tony Sipp's job next season. I would put him #4 in our farm system right now behind Whitley, Tucker & Alvarez. JB Bukauskas has taken a step backwards. Hopefully, he can bounce back. Our two second rounders from last year (Martin, Matijevic) via the Cardinals have been great. Probably going to move right into the top 10 in the farm system by midseason. Martin, other than a horrendous debut outing at Corpus Christi has been lights out. And Matijevic has been raking with power all season so far.
I think they're still trying to develop him as a starter. He can take Keuchel's spot in the rotation to give us a lefty. Last I heard, Kent Emanuel is who they're trying to shift into Sipp's role.
Where did you see that? Ivey, Mushinski, Sandoval, Javier, and Solomon are all probably ready for High A. Just as Hector Perez, Bielak, Adcock, and Alcala all could justifiably be promoted to AA, and Cionel Perez, Framber Valdez, and Ryan Hartman could all stand to move up to AAA.
They're not trying very hard. He's only gone at or above 5 IP in a start twice this season. #FringeFive
Patrick Sandoval @ Clinton: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 unearned runs, 2 BB, 6 K Colton Shaver has a solo home run, his sixth of the year. With Roman Garcia, Jake Adams, Adrian Tovalin, and Shaver, Quad Cities has four guys who have some power but a lot of swing-and-miss. It'll be interesting to see whether any of these guys can cut down on the strikeouts in order to (1) get to their power and (2) not sacrifice any of that power. Shaver also played 2B for the first time in his pro career on Monday. According to the above article, he's now 6-1, 270, apparently.
He’s still striking out too much to project as a good major league player, but 20+ HR power and ability to play SS makes for a good 20 year old prospect.
I don’t think any of those 4 guys will reach the majors. Not a ton of examples of guys striking out 25+% in A ball as 21-23 year olds suddenly figuring out how to avoid the k. Add in that all are limited defensively and don’t walk much and those guys are facing heavy odds against them. Adams has 60+ grade power so he’s got the best chance imho.
J.J. Matijevic just hit a two-run homer for Buies Creek, his 4th since his promotion. He now has 7 on the year. Ronnie Dawson also has a two-run home run for the Carolina Stros, his 6th of the season.
