JD Davis with a 2 homer night so far. Hoping he we keep him through the offseason, and he gets things going at the MLB level next year. He has good versatility, since he play either corner in both the IF and OF and would probably be serviceable at 2B as well. Would be nice to fill Marwin's hole internally to save money. Devo pitched the bottom of the 7th: K, K, 1B, 1B, K
http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=605204#/career/R/fielding/2018/ALL JD has almost exclusively played 3B professionally. He has played some at 1B and corner OF, but never at 2B.
I've seen him placed at 2B in Fresno. In college, he played all over the place, not just 3B, but also 1B and RF. Look at Cal State Fullerton's website. He definitely has versatility.
Realistically he’s limited to 3B/1B/LF/DH. His lack of speed and range would make him a poor defender at 2B or RF. Not to say he couldn’t replace Marwin on the roster, given the versatility of Bregman and Gurriel. I personally think having White and Davis instead of Marwin and Gattis would result in an overall improvement in team defense.
Never mind, I looked back and it was actually him placed at shortstop. Myles Straw also played an inning at short. Now, the only reason was because Mayfield was ejected, and they had no other choice but to put a non-SS at short for the last two innings. Not happening again barring a ton of ejections/injuries, sorry. But yeah, replacing Marwin and Gattis with White and Davis would be fine, Gurriel and Bregman (probably Kemp, too) can fill in at 2B. Davis does, however, have a very strong arm, not that it means anything if his speed is below average. I would be comfortable with him at 3B if we needed a backup. And by the way, what I meant was, I saw him on the lineup listed online, not in person.
No, it wasn't. JD Davis's innings in professional baseball are as follow: 3B: 3959.2 1B: 174.2 LF: 151 RF: 98 P: 2.2
Maybe I'm wrong and it was White instead, but whatever. Davis would still be useful to have on the bench, at least some versatility. I like his improvements at the plate.
Fair enough, but Davis would still add something, and I prefer finding some defensive value from the DH spot to increase versatility and help sustain an 8-man bullpen.
Why is probable career minor leaguer Jack Mayfield hitting 3rd in that lineup? He's hitting a cool .263/.316/.448 which makes him one of the worst every day hitters in the lineup.
Very interesting. I wish him good luck, him succeeding would be especially nice given our system's weakness with LHP. So who's going down to make room? Perez? I assume he gets playing time today after Peacock is taken out.
