holding fairly steady in the middle, #15 this week https://www.nba.com/powerrankings/2018-19-week-8 15 Last week: 14 Houston Rockets Record: 11-11 Pace: 97.2 (29) OffRtg: 112.2 (6) DefRtg: 111.8 (26) NetRtg:+0.4 (17) The Rockets fell to 0-5 without Chris Paul before he returned to dish out 23 assists (with only four turnovers) in weekend wins over the Spurs and Bulls that improved Houston to 11-6 in games that's he's played. The much bigger difference has been on defense, where the Rockets have allowed 109.3 points per 100 possessions in the 17 games Paul has played and 120.2 in the five games he's missed. They've allowed just 104.9 with him on the floor and just 100.7 in the 273 minutes he's played without James Harden. Harden, of course, has been doing his thing offensively. He dropped 54 in the Rockets' overtime loss in Washington on Monday, is on pace for the second most 3-pointers in a season in NBA history (332), and has an effective field goal percentage of 54.5 percent, his best mark in his seven seasons with the Rockets. I swear they just look at the record and write a superficial blurb. POR and IND are on two-game losing streaks, we're on a two-game win streak and somehow we're below them. Also, in the "This time last year" section of the article: "The Cavs were 11 games into a 13-game winning streak and the Clippers were undefeated (8-0) with Chris Paul in the lineup." Do they even have editors?

Portland I can understand because they've been free falling while completely healthy. But Indiana has been missing Oladipo and still has a better record than us. I wouldn't put us above them yet either. We can look absolutely horrible at times.
back in the middle again https://www.nba.com/powerrankings/2018-19-week-10 15 Last week: 22 Houston Rockets Record: 14-14 Pace: 96.5 (29) OffRtg: 112.0 (5) DefRtg: 112.2 (28) NetRtg:-0.2 (18) The Rockets are 3-0 since moving Eric Gordon into the starting lineup (with, importantly, all three wins coming against the non-Phoenix division of the Western Conference), even though ... Gordon has shot 1-for-17 from 3-point range over the three games. The new starting lineup (the Rockets' five best players) has been outscored by 15 points in 49 minutes over the three games. James Ennis suffered a hamstring injury in his first game off the bench. Gerald Green has shot 9-for-11 from deep and Danuel House is a plus-56 over the streak. James Harden has two straight triple-doubles (and 82 points over the two games), Chris Paul had one of his own, and the Rockets have been terrific (plus-28) in Paul's (36) minutes on the floor without the reigning Kia MVP. There are still questions to be answered on defense, but they've defended the Spurs' ninth-ranked offense (which they'll face again on Saturday) relatively well and the real tests on that end of the floor won't come until after Christmas.
Rockets crack the Top Ten http://www.nba.com/powerrankings/2018-19-week-12 8 Last week: 13 Houston Rockets Record: 20-15 Pace: 97.0 (28) OffRtg: 112.5 (3) DefRtg: 111.2 (25) NetRtg: +1.3 (14) A 9-1 stretch (with the only loss coming by two points in Miami) has taken the Rockets from 14th to fifth place in the Western Conference. James Harden has averaged 39.4 points (and almost 13 free throw attempts) over the 10 games, playing through a bruised calf last week, when the Rockets played only eight guys in their three wins. One of those eight was Eric Gordon, who suffered a knee injury in New Orleans on Saturday. Another was Austin Rivers, who was signed on Monday and played 31 minutes on Tuesday, guarding Russell Westbrook and hitting two big 3-pointers down the stretch of the Rockets' Christmas win over the Thunder. With good minutes from their short bench, the Rockets were a plus-21 in Harden's 30 minutes off the floor in the three wins. The next five games are tough (the five opponents have a cumulative winning percentage of .624), Chris Paul is still out, and Gordon will miss at least the Memphis game on Monday. But the schedule eases up after that. Week 12: vs. MEM, @ GSW, @ POR
haven't gone looking for these in a while, this one is interesting: 20 players have logged 12 minutes or more in uniform for the Houston Rockets this year. Now THAT'S a revolving door. https://www.nba.com/powerrankings/2018-19-week-18 This week # 11 Last week: 10 Houston Rockets Record: 32-23 Pace: 98.2 (28) OffRtg: 114.1 (2) DefRtg: 112.0 (25) NetRtg:+2.1 (11) The Houston rotation is generally only nine guys deep, but Iman Shumpert is the 20th player to log at least 12 minutes in a game for the Rockets this season. GM Daryl Morey and coach Mike D'Antoni are continuing to search for answers beyond their top five guys. Kenneth Faried has averaged 16.2 points (on 63 percent shooting) and 10.4 rebounds in his three weeks with the team, but hasn't really helped a defense that ranks 21st over those three weeks. Maybe that's where Shumpert comes in, though he's small (6-foot-5) for a small forward was on the floor for more than half of the Thunder's 42-point third quarter on Saturday. James Harden's 30-points-or-more streak reached 29 games -- the Rockets have the league's third-best record (20-9) over the course of the streak -- but he injured his most valuable left shoulder in a collision with Steven Adams in the loss to OKC. haven't looked at one of these in a while . . . Rockets at #2 on nba.com https://www.nba.com/powerrankings/2018-19-week-22 This week #2 Last week: 6 Houston Rockets Record: 41-25 Pace: 98.2 (28) OffRtg: 114.1 (2) DefRtg: 111.4 (24) NetRtg:+2.8 (11) The Rockets have held their opponents under a point per possession in two straight games for the first time all season and rank sixth defensively (106.1 points allowed per 100 possessions) over their eight-game winning streak, with five of the eight opponents being teams with above-average offenses. Their win in Toronto on Tuesday improved the Rockets to 10-8 on the road against the 16 teams that currently have winning records, with Milwaukee (11-7) and Golden State (11-8) being the only other teams with winning road records against that group. The winning streak began with a win (on the road) over the Warriors, who are in Houston on Wednesday for their final chance to avoid a season sweep. The Rockets' four games this week are actually their longest homestand of the season. Week 22: vs. CHA, vs. GSW, vs. PHX, vs. MIN

fell to #3 at NBA.com : https://www.nba.com/powerrankings/2018-19-week-23 This week #3 Last week: 2 Houston Rockets Record: 44-26 Pace: 98.2 (28) OffRtg: 114.1 (2) DefRtg: 111.1 (21) NetRtg:+3.0 (11) The Rockets couldn't complete a season sweep of the Warriors, because they shot 11-for-41 from 3-point range (not as bad as they shot in Game 7 last year, but still bad) on Wednesday. But over the weekend, the Rockets managed a game (against Phoenix) in which they shot 11-for-40 from beyond the arc (just their fourth win when shooting less then 30 percent from deep) and a game (against Minnesota) in which James Harden didn't shoot a single free throw (for the first time since Game 1 of the 2016 playoffs). They got those wins (and almost beat the Warriors despite the poor shooting), because they now have a somewhat reliable defense. The Rockets have seen the league's biggest drop in points allowed per 100 possessions from before the All-Star break (112.2 - 25th in the league) to after it (106.2 - 6th). They're on the road for four of their next five games, but have won 11 of their last 12, a stretch that includes road wins over the Warriors, Celtics, and Raptors. Golden State Warriors (1) Malaise, turnovers, overconfidence and the never-ending focus on what Kevin Durant is/should be doing on offense have all followed Golden State into the playoffs. 2. Milwaukee Bucks (2) 1. Houston Rockets (3) (Harden)'s in complete control of this series. I guess this is how they feeel. But obviously, things could change when teams change courts for more games.
