Yeah, Bynum had Kobe, he was good but was a nutjob in the end. Spoiler Only 29 and has not played in 3 years.
Him being a nutjob doesn't mean ish, Bynum was a monster in his short prime and the most dominant center in the league at that point. Could score in a variety of ways, monster on the glass and had occasional blocking cliniques. Don't gimme that Gobert is a better overall player crap. Yea, Gobert is better at defense, but Bynum was more than competent at it and miles ahead on offense. ONly reason why this trade'd make sense for me is because I would'Ve liked a defensive specialist with no offensive duties.
I wasn't saying he wasn't a good player. I was saying you can take him out fairly easily by getting in his head during important games. And without Kobe and veterans reining him in he fizzled out, not that I predicted it be that fast, but he did. So I also hesitated and when someone took Artest right in front of me, although Artest being pretty stable for years. I was relieved.
He was held below 10pts only two times in 22 playoff games between 2011 and 2012 and only fouled out once, not sure why people'd think you can take him out of the game. People here seem to be mixing up his offcourt drama with his actual performances during his peak years. My "Don't gimme that Gobert is a better overall player crap." sentiments were more aimed at jmc btw, not sure whether the guy watched Bynum during those years.
Ok. Let's just say you can't take him out and he is mentally stable but how can you select him knowing that he had only 1 Allstar season, other seasons were far behind, that is a wide, wide gap. Sure there are other 1 Star Allstars but for example, I wanted to take Antonio McDyess, statswise he was much more consistent and played for many years. Maybe he never exploded like Bynum or had that kind of talent but he was really a very good player who could have been at more Allstar Weekends than once. (I was looking at PFs and Cs at that time). Gobert is on the rise so I cannot say he was better but I do not know if folks here value potential. I value it immensely.
These drafts we do are based on prime, not longevity. And I think everyone knows that Bynum would've had far more ppg on other teams, he still averaged ~15ppg during five years playing with Kobe,Gasol, Odom, Artest etc in a triangle system.
Then it is pretty unfair to other brehs that have players who are clearly better and had longer primes. And who take care of their bodies and careers. I really thought Bynum was a waste and Mike Conley Jr. would have been a more deserving Allstar. Just being honest here.
There's a difference between better peak and longer prime, we've always been doing these drafts based on peak performance/seasons. This is a hypothetical playoff series, so taking cares of bodies or playing for more years doesn't matter.
I watched basketball religiously through bynums career. I've seen him play alot. Still think Gobert is better.
I think him hurting his team during his prime should be a legit weakness. Insanity or not, phantom fragrants, he cannot be counted on every game. This is a bball character issue. Maybe not caring about it when we talk it out but when all things are equal (when our scores are tight) this is a clear weakness. It's the same thing when people talk Bynum is the fourth option on a championship team. Heck, he is an Allstar, shouldn't he be able to assert himself more?
He was 2nd in ppg during his all-star season. Again, this is about basketball and he didn't let his team down during the playoffs. If you considered all this stuff, every team could be talked to sh** because at least one player had issues at one point or cost his team crucial games.

Ill take it a step further. Bynum had a year where he averaged 18 points a game. Gobert this year averaged 14. However it took Bynum double the amount of attempts to get 4 extra points a game. Im not coming at you Yung T. I just prefer a defensive minded Center.
I'm okay with you valuing him a lot and as I've said, he is valuable because of his great defense. Comparing their ppg and fg% makes little sense though, completely different situations for both guys. Not saying this to take away anything from Gobert though, this is a general statement. Gobert 7.7fga, Bynum 11.0. Not sure what you looked at. That's 3.3fga for 4.7 more ppg.
