Much of the talk this season has been centered around Westbrook's triple doubles and certain media has let's just say.... underrepresented just how great a statistical season Harden is having.

It's historic and truly an all-time great NBA season.

    Harden
    Leads the NBA in assists.
Leads the NBA in double doubles.

    Averages:

    He's averaging 29/11/8

The only man to have those averages ever also is Oscar Robertson.

Harden is doing it on 44/35/86 shooting.
    With a TS% of 62%(elite).

    Historic:

He had two consecutive 40 pt triple dubs on a back-to-back.
He has the most 50 pt triple doubles in a single season in NBA history (2) Including the first ever 50/15/15 game when he had 53/16/17.
The most 40 pt triple doubles in a single season in NBA history. (7)

There has been a man to average the arbitrary triple double line before.... Oscar Robertson, but Harden is doing something that no one has done before.

Harden currently is averaging the most points produced per game in NBA history and is on pace to have the most points produced in a single season in NBA history.

He's averaging 56.7 points produced per game.

    Points produced via points+assists
No player has produced more on a per game basis.

The second most is Wilt Chamberlain with 55.2 points produced per game in his 50 pt avg season in 1961-1962.

Wilt finished that season with 4,416 points produced that season.

Harden has already accounted for 4,025 of the Rockets points 71 games into this season.

In all... Elevating his team to a top three record in the league Harden should be MVP because he has his team exceeding expectations more than anyone.

He's had the most impressive performances of the season.... More than anyone and it isn't close.

He's also produced more for his team than anyone.... And he's done it more efficiently than anyone else in the conversation.

The people voting for MVP don't care.

It goes Westbrook, Kawhi, LeBron, then Isaiah Thomas, and finally Harden to them.

Wish you defending Harden on SportNation instead of Marcellus Wiley.

Great post, but you need to post this on Reddit, tweet it, or do whatever else you have to do to get more eyeballs on this!

All of Clutchfans know how special the season James is having but Mr Triple Double has just about completely overshadowed it.

I agree that he should post this on Reddit on r/nba. Media members read Reddit, and the more people that know these facts the better.

for the OP, if u were to post it on r/nba, I think it would be best to not even mention Westbrook so that the thread doesn't dissolve into Harden vs Westbrook and the focus remains on Harden's incredible season

That is a good post. Although wouldn't Westbrook be a point or less per game behind Harden this season? He is averaging about 2 points more per game and about 1 assist less...

Yeah he is 1.5 behind on pretty low efficiency.

This definitely needs to be posted elsewhere, we all know clutchfans love the beard. Time to inform all those WB nuthuggers. /r/nba is filled with them.

    Great info!

Man, beating wilt's 55.2 points produced is truly historic!

Edit: when you post it on reddit, send me the link so I can upvote and comment on it, try to get some traction...people over there drooling over WB's most recent trip dub:confused:

Yes, great post. We are fortunate enough to have an all time great blossoming before our eyes again. I, fully expect us to roll to our first title under James's reign.

Westbrook is currently averaging 10.4 dimes and 10.5 boards. If either of those numbers slipped to 9.9, he would lose a lot of MVP votes (which certain pundits, such as chris broussard, have explicitly admitted). While averaging a triple double for an entire season is extremely impressive, I find the argument that this is the main measuring stick for some of these voters to be absolutely ridiculous.

Is WB's line at 31.2 ppg, 10.4 apg, 10.5 rpg really so much more impressive than either of these two possibilities?:
    31.2 ppg, 9.9 apg, 10.5 rpg; or
    31.2 ppg, 10.4 apg, 9.9 rpg

By similar logic, if you increased James's assists and rebounds numbers by .5 or .6, respectively, does that cement his case for MVP?
    29.4 ppg, 11.6 apg, 8.1 rpg; or
    29.4 ppg, 11.2 apg, 8.7 rpg

In a vacuum, I would agree that averaging a triple-double makes WB is a shoo-in for MVP. No question. However, there are other considerations. WB and James's numbers are relatively similar, but James keeps his team humming at a better pace than WB does. In addition, I don't think you cannot take the personnel into consideration, since both are the sole all-stars on their respective teams. The argument that James has more shooters should be more of a comment on the team-building skills of Presti and Morey than a factor in the MVP vote.

However, I don't have a vote, and the glamour of the individual's numbers will likely impress more than the individual's role in elevating his teammates and the team itself. I ultimately think it's pretty weak reasoning in the end.

Yes! The whole media debate has come down to "do you prefer better stats, or a better record"? I have not heard a single national figure make the argument that Harden's numbers are more impressive. But given the vast gulf in scoring efficiency separating the two, they absolutely are in my opinion.

As others have stated, you need to tweet this, FB Live it, post it on Reddit, print out fliers and drop them from the Chase Tower.....ANYTHING to get more eyes on the fact that our beloved Beard is having an MVP-defining season.
