Some letting the radio hosts at 610 ask so many softball questions to Kubiak and let the reporters at the Kubiak Press Conference ask tough questions without worrying about being banned from the conference room.

 

Oh, right... so the way to become a good sports town is for our team to just be #1...

Being a good sports town should not be tied to how easy your team is to root for (cough, Spurs & Lakers & Heat bandwagons).

 

i hear ya...but the truth is...with just a few notable exceptions...if you have a losing franchise, people aren't showing up or tuning in, no matter what city you're in.

 

Houston is a great sports town in its own right. You don't have to be Chicago--loving a bunch of losers--or Boston/New York, with their 100+ years of Major League heritage, to be a great sports town.

When will these idiots finally appreciate that different cities have different cultures and learn to embrace what makes Houston unique instead of pointing to other cities like every other uncreative, lazy freaking hack in the country?

I hadn't even bothered to read the drivel, but I gave it a click just for grins. I zipped through it quickly, only bothering to actually read a couple things.

But the first and last items on the list are absolutely laced with irony. Nay, saturated and dripping with irony.

Precisely. Remember all the talking heads in '04 and '05 suddenly lauding Houston as a "great baseball town". Do they realize how inanely shallow that is?

 

....win? It's all teams have to do and the city goes nuts. No more..."potential"....or "what ifs"

 

an even worse example was the Indians' resurgence in the mid-90's. the team was playing well..they got a new ballpark...and all of a sudden they were being referred to as if they were they Capitol of Baseball.

what was forgotten was that they literally had seasons in the mid 80's where they averaged less than 10,000 per game.

then they mixed a competitive team with a new ballpark to average around 30,000...now they're back down to averaging 22,000.

BY THE WAY...I WOULD POINT OUT THAT THE FACT THAT THE HOUSTON TEXANS...AMONG THE MOST BORING, BLAND FRANCHISES IN PRO SPORTS OVER THE LAST 9 YEARS...HAS SOLD OUT EVERY GAME IN ITS EXISTENCE. AND THERE'S STILL A WAITING LIST TO BUY MORE.

I'd argue that's pretty solid evidence that Houston is a good sports town.
