In line with the other post, I felt this was necessary. For me Church's new spicy chicken is a grand slam, although it always gives me the sh*ts, but so does Popeyes. I'm a glutton for punishment. I'm putting wings places on here simply bacause it still is "fried chicken."
Oh my.. a very difficult poll for me. I don't even remember what I voted for! However I've been meaning to try Frenchy's.. how is it?
None of the above. This is by far the best fried chicken I have encountered: http://www.bbq.co.kr/ It's a Korean chain, perhaps the biggest one over here. It's basic fried chicken except the pieces are smaller and it's fried in olive oil. Then they toss it in a spicy barbecue sauce. So, you get the best of both worlds - crispness and sauciness. This kicks the hell out of anything in North America. I should add that Koreans are obsessed with fried chicken. KFC is like Starbucks over here.
If you live in Houston and consider yourself a Houstonian, and you do not vote for Frenchy's, I'ma gun come over yo house an whip yo ayess! Seriously...the only fried chicken I eat is Frenchy's or my own. Occasionally I do Henderson's Chicken Shack. No KFC, Church's, Popeyes or Hartz for me. But....I can't eat fried foods as much as I used to. Cholesterol....
No surprise Popeyes is in the lead. I like Popeyes, but I voted for Churchs because of value. One day I'm going to try Frenchy. I tried Old Frenchy's or whatever it's called recommended by a poster here. I believe it's on Hillcroft just north of 90. They also have chinese food. I didn't think it was all that. btw, does anyone like KFC original recipe? It's good for a piece or two...then it's disgusting. btw btw, I love Raising Canes...sweet ice tea and Canes sauce...yum.
I haven't had Frenchys or Church's in years, since I can't find them outside of Texas, so I voted for Popeyes. The best fried chicken I ever had was in Thailand from a guy with a roadside stall. It was great stuff. Not too heavily breaded, spicy and probably fried in pure coconut oil. I can imagine Heaven is something like sitting on a beach in Thailand eating great fried chicken and drinking a beer.
There's a couple local chicken places in Waco and Lorena called Bush's Gold-N-Crisp Chicken that nearly rehabilitated the Bush surname for me.
Has anyone had Chester Fried? I don't know why I stopped to get some on the way to Austin. It was hard as a rock...probably been sitting out
