https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-mock-draft-pff-analysts-all-seven-rounds That was probably the worst mock I've seen this cycle. An offensive tackle from YALE with the 2nd pick? That after trading back up to where the original slot was to take a guy that could possibly fall (Newton). Yuck.
With the wheeling and dealing during the draft. Do Kenyan Green, Dameon Pierce, or Jalen Pitre get added to trades for move up? These are players drafted by prior coach.
I don't like the draft either. The Texans aren't trading up to the 1st round. The trade back was done not only because the Texans believe they will be able to pick their guy in the 2nd round, but also because they want to manage their cap space. The Texans had 2 1st rounders last year, that both look like they will have max contracts after their rookie deal. The tackle from Yale is really good.
https://www.si.com/nfl/2024/04/22/2024-nfl-draft-team-needs-targets-predictions-picks Houston Texans First pick: No. 42 Total picks: Nine Needs: DT, CB, OT What you need to know: Nick Caserio essentially moved the Texans’ first pick down 19 slots in the trade with Minnesota, and Houston still has its slotted second- and third-rounders at Nos. 59 and 86 (they have the Vikings’ second-rounder next year in the wash), setting the team up as a Day 2 powerbroker. As for what the Texans will be looking for, DeMeco Ryans’s history in San Francisco would indicate they’ll keep stocking the defensive line, and Florida State’s Braden Fiske and Ohio State’s Michael Hall could be fits as disruptors on the interior.
Bowers falling would be great, someone post a pick of him with a bong please. Love Mitchell and Murphy as well. But I was okay with moving back because I didn’t think they would be there, so I would be fine with getting aggressive and moving back up to get them. it’s not that I don’t like Newton, but I feel like he was actually mocked to be there at 23 so paying a premium to get him at 28 seems iffy, but honestly, Caserio has had me put my foot in my mouth all off-season so I am 100% behind him. And the addition of Diggs and Newton would make the premium more equal. All in all, I have ideas for this draft, I have players and positions I want, but I haven’t even done a mock because I truly can’t be upset after this draft. I have decided to just trust the FO. They have been incredible for the past 14 months. I’m just excited and have hopes, but I won’t be upset no matter what they do.
I keep seeing a lot of mock drafts where Minnesota or Denver trade up for QB McCarthy. To me that seems like a big mistake. Like drafting Blaine Gabbert when you could of easily selected a future Pro Bowler in a loaded draft.
Seeing Demeco get the phone for Will Anderson… I would be fine with whatever we traded to move up to get him. You can just tell Demeco has great plans for him and is soooo excited.
With 6 QBs going in potentially the first round, and the run on receivers, I could see a really good defensive player falling to end of first early second. Think there’s a good possibility they trade up a few spots if there’s a mid first round talent there
I really like Penix, but the experts seem to think I'm wrong, and most of them have forgotten more about football than I'll ever know.
This might be the best Texans mock that I've seen. https://texanswire.usatoday.com/lists/houston-texans-7-round-mock-draft-defense-takes-over-early/
