If you have some time to kill before the Duke game....... Probably the greatest college basketball game I've ever seen. Especially the 2nd half.
(4) Kris M Gardner on X: "Kelvin Sampson about @DukeMBB: "The strength of their team is how they use Filipowski but also those three guards." Watch more his comments about Duke - including freshman guard Jared McCain (who UH recruited and had for an official visit) - on @YouTube: https://t.co/ViQnGYoPor" / X (twitter.com)
What a fantastic game, and I don't mean that just because UH won. It strikes me that each time a see a game or extended clip of 80s basketball, both college and NBA, the game just looks better. Am I an old man?
It was better, just for the fact that it was prior to the proliferation of "one and done" and high school players to the NBA. You see the experience and cohesion from these 80s/90s teams that can't be replicated today.
'If you can't get Houston when you shoot 45 free throws, get 26 offensive rebounds and foul out half of the Houston roster, exactly when can you get Kelvin Sampson's Cougars? The Houston win over Texas A&M was amazing, and it reinforced that no team plays harder and is so relentless. It also points out that Jamal Shead is the toughest dude in the college game. If Emanuel Sharp and L.J. Cryer continue to make shots, Shead will not let Houston lose. Duke is a challenge, but Houston is relentless. Relentless is hard to beat.'
who said that? i love it. When the game ended my older son said, "Man, I don't know how you beat this team."
while true. every game is different. It just happen to play out the way it did. If you're able to find different ways to win, you're doing something right, which is a testament to UH. it's funny though, 2 weeks ago UH was getting drilled by casuals and media folks for getting demolished by Iowa St. The recency bias never fails in ncaab with the you're only as good as your last game One answer to this question though is a team is just on fire that night. That's March Madness for you. We've seen that over and over. And that will continue to be true in a tournament where only one night matters for that 1 game
I would add to that list of things they overcame in that game....that the Aggies could NOT ****ing miss down the stretch. Every time they had a chance to hit a 3, it seemed they did...big shot after big shot in a short stretch...and it still wasn't enough, even on top of everything else. But as you said, the tournament is wacky...anything can happen.
haha. perfect example. I remember when the brackets were released that Sunday on the selection show, he had UH having trouble from rebounding from the Iowa St. loss. And that it wouldn't surprise him if they didn't make it to the 2nd weekend. He also has Duke so F him
