Urban areas in America are failing. Schools are not properly education children. Crime is rampant. Drug usage is above acceptable levels. Commerce is being negatively impacted, and corporations are locating outside of the cities. People of means are moving to the suburbs, and with this will bring a hollowing-out of the central business districts in cities. A commercial real estate crisis is brewing. Soon, tax bases will erode, and with it, a decline in funding for critical services for the communities who cannot afford to leave. We must find a way to reverse these trends. We must acknowledge that past efforts have not worked. Should we start "colonizing" American cities by bringing in competent leadership from outside the local region? Leaders with proven track records of success who can set smart policies and create a culture of accountability. Leaders who can attract capital to invest in these communities and can inspire confidence. Leaders who can reverse the existing trends and improve schools, reduce crime, and attract private investment. American cities have vast potential, but the most valuable real estate unfortunately is being mismanaged by the local communities. We can turn this trend around with the right leadership and improve the lives of those men, women, and children in these communities. Give them hope for a brighter future.
I think the government would be smaller if you had competent, experienced leadership. They'd yank out all the underperformers and replace them with people that do the work of multiple people.
Like how companies bring in new CEOs or are bought out . .. . you know. . . .people with no real STAKES in those communities no tradition or ties to them . . . people who don't give a real d*mn about those communities Just the BOTTOM LINE You know. . .Run government like a business Is that what you are talking about? Basically screw this democrazy and insert people who "WE" this are competent of course the WE is *NEVER* be subjected to biases sexisms or racisms. . . perish the thought Rocket River
Urban areas across America are facing significant challenges. Schools are struggling to provide quality education, crime rates are high, and drug usage remains a concern. Additionally, there's a noticeable impact on commerce, with many corporations choosing to relocate outside of cities. This shift is accompanied by a migration of affluent individuals to the suburbs, which threatens to hollow out the central business districts of cities. As a result, a commercial real estate crisis looms, and the tax bases of urban areas are at risk of eroding. This decline in revenue could lead to a reduction in funding for essential services, particularly affecting communities with limited resources. It's imperative to address these issues and recognize that previous attempts to do so have fallen short. We must explore new strategies to reverse these troubling trends and ensure the vitality and prosperity of our urban communities.
Urban city leaders are failing the minorities it supposed to help- $20 minimum wage ? Result- hasten job cuts to workers - increased costs of Big Macs , food, housing etc especially in urban areas Defund the police? - Result - complete 360 on this thought process - increased crime affecting minorities huge - Now NAACP wants increased police only two examples among many such as businesses leaving, schools chaos, etc
The results speak for themselves and the people in these communities deserve hope for a brighter future. It's time for new leadership. My thought is have a rigorous process for identifying successful leaders. Intensive, behavioral based interviews to make sure candidates are well equipped for the job, and are there for the right reasons. This will open up the talent pool to all regions, not just the local regions, where leadership talent may be thin. Teach for America is an example of a program that brings in talent from outside the region to help improve a challenged situation.
hat n Is that not what our elections are for? In order to get what you desire you either 1. remove the money and influence peddling out of politics or 2. have appointed people aka Screw Democracy Rocket River
I think this is a situation where someone needs to step in and put things on a better course. Otherwise, we are going to have social upheaval as the wealth gap increases and as job opportunities in downtowns dry up. Inject some fresh thinking into these cities to stimulate growth and provide hope for children who are born into these challenges (more often than not without a father at home). What would be interesting to see is if voters had a choice in local elections between local candidates or to "go to the bullpen" and bring in competent leaders from outside the area. For instance, if you live in a very low income area comprised of predominantly apartment complexes and gov't housing projects, then odds are, you don't have anyone in your district that is an experienced manager/leader. So the talent pool for leadership roles is woefully inadequate. Why not open up the candidate pool to people from outside the area. The more I consider it, the more I think it's a breakthrough idea. Goal is to help uplift people out of poverty and bring leadership to underachieving groups.
It's not the candidates ANYONE can run in those elections . . . but why would anyone vote for some "slick talking" person from outside of the area . . . The main thing is . .. why would they trust them . . . .. Politics is about trust You will have to demonstrate that you are not coming in to raid the coffers and run and they will have to trust what you saying Rocket River
@Os Trigonum related Higher wagers = layoffs woke economics in a high inflation and high cost and high tax state is layoffs
Possible. I don't know him well enough but this is definitely a level . . . IF MY GUY WAS RUNNING THINGS type of mentality That this should happen regardless of the wishes of the people in those areas Colonizing is definitely the right word for it. . . .and it is exactly what Columbus did Came to the Americas raping and pillaging these locals .. . "for their own good" Then came the Missionaries. . .. . Rocket River Most popular/prevalent holiday in the world is FREEDOM FROM ENGLAND day
@ROXRAN @basso you mean google , apple, and every single California refugee from San Francisco and Silicon Valley ? this was happening before Trump or Biden or Obama . The other migrant crisis is all the California people moving to the south . it’s good to have Elon Musk and Joe Rogan in the ATX Try selling your house and see what ‘people’ are going to buy your house Hint : Tupac and Dre @AroundTheWorld @Salvy
This isn't about slick talking. This is about finding competent leaders with demonstrated track records of success. The track record does the talking. Or we can stay on the current course which is leading to generations of poverty, poor education, crime, and lack of economic opportunity. Obviously keep running with the same poor leadership is not an attractive choice. COVID and the 2020 BLM riots really accelerated the hollowing out of the downtown core. People dependent upon the government for transportation and jobs don't have the options of moving to the suburbs... so the urban core will continue to have a brain drain and resources drain (tax base + corporations leaving). Looking out into the future, it's an ugly picture unless some radical change occurs.
I blame men - to be more exact, I blame white men. These types of decisions have been made by men for thousands of years, and in the USA it has always been white men. It is time for women - especially minority women to be given the means and power to make decisions on both a micro and macro level. Men are responsible for almost all violent crime and commercial real estate failure. Women do not commit violent crime near the levels that men do - so the patriarchy must fall - because we need to improve the lives of the men, women and children in American cities.
