I think JJ is ready to start his coaching career and lobbying for a spot on Ryans staff. Is there a better candidate for D-line coach out there? I think not.
Could the timing have worked out any better? If the coaching thing doesn't work out, he could always run for Mayor. And win with 97% of the vote. Even if he was affiliated with the Silly Party.
I saw JJ say on twitter recently that he doesn’t really want to coach because of the work that they have to put in. I think he’d more likely run for Mayor than want to coach, but I’d like to be wrong about that.
I have no idea how much - if any - damage was done in JJ's final years here. But (re)building a relationship with the best player in franchise history is important, especially for a young franchise without much history at all.
https://www.click2houston.com/sport...team-fire-its-head-coach-third-year-in-a-row/ Former Texans linebacker DeMeco Ryans, the San Francisco 49ers’ highly-rated defensive coordinator, is not expected to pursue the job, according to sources. Ryans once filed a lawsuit against the Texans and the NFL seeking damages and alleging issues with the field surface’s design and construction after suffering a torn Achilles at NRG Stadium on Nov. 2, 2014. Ryans is expected to be picky as he pursues head-coaching opportunities and isn’t in a rush to leave the 49ers’ high-caliber defense.
The Texans were in an advantageous position though. He played here. His wife is from here. He has ties to the area. While no one's complaining, I don't think this is a sign that we got our "act together" but rather we got lucky that a hot shot coaching candidate just happened to have so many ties to the city and franchise.
Be fair to the org… three of their head coaching hires have been hot prospects that could have landed a job anywhere. The only two times they hired bad candidates was when the deshaun situation hamstrung them. kubiak, O’Brien and demerit are all elite name candidates. Even capers was a solid candidate
