Is Easterby still around? Are the McNairs still the owners? Is Culley still the head coach? At this point the only exciting thing about next season is who our pick will be in the draft and whether we manage to get anything out of Watson.
Mills looked about as good as I expected him too. Bad int. The other bad throw was a miscommunication. Could've been on Mills, could've been on the receiver. Dont know, but it happens to all QB's, WR's at times.
Mills madea great throw on the bomb to Cooks that got called back on Pharoh Brown's 10th holding call of the season. Add TE that can block to the list of offseason needs. The int fumble that wasn't and the bomb Lance threw that got a BS PI call on Mitchell told me the game was rigged. The hold on Brown that nulified the bomb from Mills further confirmed my thoughts.
It happens almost every game, the texans get out coached the 2nd half, Culley such a bad coach, cant make halftime adjustments.
It is what it is. Im not going to crucify Mills because he's in a tough spot, but he has to make more plays with his feet IMO. For a guy who's supposed to be "fast" he's a statue in the pocket for the most part. Going off script will be what determines if he sticks around as a starter in this league ... plays wont always be on time and delivered with a bow. Win/Win situation since this team isnt going to compete on most weeks you make Mills sink or swim prior to the 2023 draft. Either you get a competent starter in Mills or he will stink it up and put you in a high enough draft slot to take the next guy. Dont coddle and make it easy for him. Test him and make him earn the starters role with a camp battle and see how he responds and grows from there.
49ers came out with a whole new energy second half. Lance is definitely an athlete and looks the part, but some of those passes were pretty wobbly and inaccurate. Not sure how I'd feel as a Niners fan considering what he cost. In reference to what another poster said above - we do have a blocking TE -Auclair. He was out with Covid yesterday and that gave the Niners D some real advantages with matchups. We couldn't run and disguise things like we would have preferred (Scharping played A LOT). Brooks Kobena does a good film breakdown write up for the Chronicle if any of ya'll have a subscription. I think it was 4th and 2? - Where Brevin Jordan was opened but it looked like Mills totally misread or threw an inaccurate pass. FWIW, watching the game it showed Mills patting Jordon on the helmet as he was jogging off the field. Jordan possibly ran the wrong route...
Mills, Jordan and Collins. Those guys could really turn into players. Bolster the O Line and add another WR and we might have us a scrappy team next year. The future of the Texans and our competitive timeline boils down to the return for Watson.
LOL, they've only spent, what, 7 draft picks in the last 5 years on TEs. Maybe someday they can find one that can catch *and* block.
If there's ever a year to draft one that can do both this is the year. LaPorta from Iowa, Kolar and Allen from Iowa St. and Allen from Nebraska are mid rd guys that really remind me of OD.
