I gotta side with VH on this one. I think Metallica probably rocks harder...but VH (not Hagar) probably had one of the best band personalities ever. VH also had a number of very (pop) radio-friendly hits.

Heavy metal vs hard rock has undermined this non-poll poll from the beginning

I celebrate both their early collections

This is like pre-18 me (VH) voting against post-18 me (Metallica). Not fun, man.

Used to like Metallica. Dislike both now. But Metallica seems way less cheesy. Both bands reek of Sherlock's Baker St. Pub. Lulz.

See...you've already broken Thunderdome. There were no mention of rules, parameters or expectations.

I remember listening to every Metallica studio album except St. Anger. Don't remember any Van Halen after F.U.C.K.

Brass tacks EVH is the better guitarist but I could listen to Metallica all day while I get sick of DLR’s vocals after about an hour.

Metallica had a longer, better run than VH, too. As @Buck Turgidson mentioned, really a different genre.

I'll go with One vs Jump. And I'd say One is superior.

But I prefer Van Halen's anthology.
